Germany is ramping up its military capabilities as fast as it can and will begin the process of ratifying Sweden’s and Finland’s applications for NATO membership this week, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, according to Reuters.
“For Germany, this means that we will continue to expand our contribution on land, at sea and in the air,” Scholz told reporters at the NATO summit in Madrid.
According to Scholz, Germany will constantly support a regional naval commando in the Baltic Sea, a tank division of 15,000 soldiers and 20 naval units.
The chancellor added that he did not want to speculate about how long Ukraine would need support, or what it would take to get Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war.
