Roundup of the second round of Group Stage matches at 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro as the knockout picture began to take shape.
Following an action-packed opening round of group matches, matchday two saw the race for knockout places take centre stage as teams fought to secure their places in the last eight ahead of the final round of group matches.
Cue a historic performance and plenty of scrappy contests featuring 26 goals in total as we round up the latest Group Stage action at 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro across England.
Group A
Beth Mead ran riot with a hat-trick as hosts, England thrashed Norway 8-0 to record the biggest win of any UEFA European Championship match across men’s and women’s competitions, with Ellen White netting twice as Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hemp and Alessio Russo also scored.
Katharina Schiechtl and Katharina Naschenweng fired Austria up to second following a 2-0 win over rock-bottom Northern Ireland.
Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses consequently advance as Group A winners with one match left ahead of their home nations derby against eliminated Northern Ireland, leaving Austria to battle Norway for the runner-up and second qualification spot in their last group match.

Group B
First-half goals from Klara Buhl and Alexandra Popp saw Germany comfortably defeat Spain 2-0 at Brentford Community Stadium, which saw the Die Nationalelf qualify for the knockout stages as Group B winners.
Pernille Harder headed in a 72nd minute winner as Denmark scraped a victory against Finland at Stadium MK to keep their hopes alive, which set up a winners-take-all runner-up showdown against Spain on Saturday 16 July.
Finland consequently were eliminated following their second defeat in the group and will meet Germany in their final group match.

Group C
Netherlands moved top as Danielle Van de Donk netted a stunning 62nd minute winner in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Portugal at Leigh Sports Village, after early goals from Damaris Egurrola and Stefanie van der Gragt were cancelled out by Carole Costa and Diana Silva.
Substitute, Hanna Bennison rifled in a 79th minute winner to lift Sweden up to second in a tense 2-1 win against Switzerland, after Ramona Bachmann had equalised just 92 seconds after Fridolina Rolfo had fired the Swedes in front.
Victories or a draw in their final group matches against Switzerland and Portugal respectively would be enough for both Netherlands and Sweden to advance to the knockout stage, although defeats would see all four teams locked on four points apiece.

Group D
Griedge Mbock Bathy nodded in a 41st minute winner from Clara Mateo’s cross to send France through as Group D winners, following a 2-1 win over 10-women Belgium after the Belgian Red Flame’s Janice Cayman had cancelled out Kadidiatou Diani’s opener before Amber Tysiak was red carded for handball.
Italy remain rock-bottom after Valentina Bergamaschi cancelled out Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir’s third minute strike in a 1-1 draw against second-placed Iceland.
Iceland therefore will advance as Group D runners-up with victory over France in their final group match, whereas Belgium and Italy must both win their final group clash and hope Iceland fail to beat France if either team are to qualify for the Quarter-Finals.
