Sept. 18, 2026: Guyana Amazon Warriors’ men’s campaign has come to a heartbreaking end, eliminated from the 2026 Caribbean Premier League after Jamaica Kingsmen chased down a target of 207 with two balls to spare in Qualifier 2 at Kensington Oval tonight, despite a scintillating century from Shimron Hetmyer.
Guyana’s Warriors posted 206 for 4 off their 20 overs, powered by Hetmyer’s unbeaten 102 off just 45 balls, including four fours and eight sixes, in an innings that briefly looked like it would carry Guyana back into Sunday’s final. Shai Hope contributed 26 as the pair added 50 runs in 34 balls for the third wicket, before Hetmyer took over in the closing overs to push Guyana past the 200 mark.
It wasn’t enough. Jamaica chased the target down with authority, reaching 100 in just 9.1 overs before Keacy Carty’s 50 off 35 balls kept the required rate manageable. Jamaica ultimately finished on 207 for 5 with two balls in hand, sealing the win. Rovman Powell was named Player of the Match for an unbeaten 40 off 17 balls that finished the chase.
A crushing end to a dominant season
The elimination caps a painful stretch for Guyana, who finished top of the CPL 2026 points table after winning eight of 10 group-stage matches, only to be bundled out for 76 in Qualifier 1 against Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, who chased that target down in just 32 balls, the second-fastest win in CPL history. Needing to win Qualifier 2 to keep their season alive, Guyana instead fell in a match that had briefly promised redemption behind Hetmyer’s heroics.
