Is Chiefs veteran Khune being pushed out of Naturena?

Kaizer Chiefs veteran keeper Itumeleng Khune’s days are almost over at Naturena as a local football publication’s report suggests – he is being pushed out of the Soweto giants.

According to a Johannesburg-based publication, Khune is being pushed or forced to leave the club as he remains suspended following a disciplinary issue.

As The South African also reported, Khune allegedly arrived at training under the influence of alcohol but it seems he was targeted and it seems he is now being pushed out of the club, Phakaaathi reports.

The publication has it that the veteran keeper, Khune has all but played his last game for Chiefs but it seems he is being pushed out as the club wants to get rid of senior players at Naturena.

Judging his contract which is set to expire at the end of the current DStv Premiership season, talk is that some people are out to push Khune away from the Naturena-based outfit.

In addition, the reports suggest that the Naturena-based Chiefs will not renew the 36-year-old’s contract as the relationship between both parties has turned sour – is he being pushed out?

“Khune feels that he could have been protected more by the club instead of them going public about his suspension,” a source told the Mgosi squad.

“The funny thing is that he didn’t arrive at training drunk. The story was obviously leaked to the media to tarnish his image. Players had a day off and most of the guys drank.

“It was a day before returning to training. It’s obvious that he was targeted the following morning, knowing very well that he just smelled of alcohol from the previous day.

“Why didn’t other players get the same treatment? It doesn’t make sense for him to throw away his career like that after being at the club for over 20 years.”

KHUNE’S UNDYING LOVE FOR CHIEFS

Despite the talk that the veteran, Khune’s image is being tarnished by some people inside the Chiefs camp, it seems the former Bafana Bafana star cannot clear his name as he loves the club.

“The unfortunate thing is that he will never clear his name or speak negatively about Chiefs in public because he loves the club,” added the insider to Phakaaathi.

“But he knows that his time is up because he can see that he’s being pushed out.

“There’s also an agenda that is being pushed by certain senior players within the team to get him out and he’s also aware of that.

“The bottom line is that he would love to play beyond this season and it looks like it won’t happen unless Chiefs have a change of heart.”
