Jeff Bridges says AI will render human actors obsolete in Hollywood

Veteran actor Jeff Bridges has joined a growing chorus of Hollywood heavyweights sounding the alarm over the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. Reflecting on the entertainment industry’s swift adoption of the technology, Bridges captured the anxiety surrounding the shift, remarking, “Pretty soon, I’ll be out of a gig, man. I mean that. I’ll probably lease my image. They’ll say, ’We want to combo De Niro, Bridges, and let’s put some Andy Garcia in there. See what happens’ … That’s not too far off. I mean, they can do it already.”

His comments reflect a bleak assessment of an industry built on pure human endeavor that is now increasingly leaning toward digital replication. Bridges’ familiarity with digital technology dates back to his experience with character development in the 2010 film “Tron.” Yet, while leasing a digital likeness might offer a fallback strategy, the broader implications for performers remain deeply troubling.

Bridges is far from alone in his evaluation. Oscar-nominated actor James Woods similarly warned that AI is no short-lived craze, stating, “AI is the end of human actors. I’m adamant about this,” during an interview with Fox News. Industry observers point out that while AI-generated actors might start as mere background extras, cost-saving technologies rarely stay confined to the margins once they take root.
