A group of Kenyans in the Diaspora have embarked on vote hunt for Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The more than 50 Azimio supporters from the United Kingdom, European Union and the United States are in the country and are campaigning in Mt Kenya region to ensure Raila gets at least two million vote from the region.
On Friday, the group organised a meeting that was attended by the Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua and involved a Diaspora ground caravan campaign across Kiambu county.
Azimio Diaspora UK and the USA organized the campaign caravan to mobilize votes for Raila and Karua as part of two weeks campaigns across the nine counties of Mt Kenya – Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Tharaka Nithi and Meru.
The campaign caravan which was officially flagged off from Kiambu Town by Karua and other senior politicians from Mt Kenya region and will cover a county per day until August 6.
The team addresses rallies in Kiambu Town, Lari and Kimende Town among other centres.
The Diaspora ground organisers of the Kiambu rally leader, Maina Gatangi said they were targeting to win over the young voters, women and the small scale business people across the region.
“Our target is to convince them to vote for those with integrity and can be trusted to deliver as opposed to the Kenya Kwanza politicians who were using lofty promises to win them,” said Gatangi.
Kivindyo Ndivo, Chairman of Azimio Diaspora UK and Europe chapters said they will not relent until in efforts to ensure Raila-Karua victory.
“All our eyes are on the big prize for Raila. we will not only campaign but also support in the guarding of the vote after the polls, we are confident that Azimio will win by a big margin,” Kivindyo told The Standard.
He exuded confidence that Diaspora voters across the US, UK and EU and will cast the ballot in favour of Azimio.
“This time round, the Diaspora supporters are in full combat gear both back home and abroad in support of Raila-Karua bid to State House,” said Women right activist and Azimio Diaspora UK Secretary General Rose Seko.
Seko said the diaspora initiative “Baba Bodaboda brigade” is in the final planning stage where the boda boda members from across the 47 counties will endorse Raila and Karua presidency on Monday in Nairobi.
She said other diaspora initiatives underway include Linda Kura project.
“We want to help in the protecting of the vote. We are working on the logistics together with the Raila campaign team so as to know where we can help to ensure that all Azimio votes are safe,” said Seko.
