Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid has received a major boost ahead of their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash against Manchester City as superstar forward Kylian Mbappé is expected to return to the squad.
The French international recently returned to full training after recovering from a left knee sprain that had sidelined him in recent weeks. According to multiple reports from leading sports outlets, Mbappé is now feeling fit and ready to contribute as Real Madrid prepares for the crucial encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
A Huge Advantage for Real Madrid
Real Madrid enters the second leg with a commanding 3-0 advantage after a dominant performance at the Santiago Bernabéu. Midfielder Federico Valverde was the hero of the first leg, scoring a sensational hat-trick that stunned Manchester City and gave Los Blancos a comfortable lead.
With Mbappé potentially returning to action, Real Madrid’s attacking threat becomes even more dangerous. His speed, movement, and finishing ability could prove decisive, especially if Manchester City pushes forward aggressively in search of goals.
Tactical Impact of Mbappé’s Return
Mbappé’s presence adds a new dimension to Real Madrid’s tactical approach. Even if he starts on the bench, his ability to exploit space on the counter-attack could be devastating against a Manchester City side expected to play with a high defensive line.
Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa has favored a flexible tactical system, often switching between a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2 formation depending on the opponent and match situation.

Manchester City Facing a Tough Challenge
Manchester City now faces the difficult task of overturning a three-goal deficit. To progress to the next round, Pep Guardiola’s side must score at least three goals without conceding against a disciplined Real Madrid defense.
City will likely rely heavily on their attacking stars, including Erling Haaland, to spearhead the comeback attempt. However, pushing forward could leave spaces at the back — exactly the type of situation where Real Madrid’s fast attackers thrive.
Injury Updates
Despite the positive news about Mbappé’s recovery, Real Madrid still has injury concerns. Jude Bellingham is reportedly doubtful for the second leg due to a hamstring issue, while Ferland Mendy is expected to miss the match with a muscular injury.
Manchester City also faces its own fitness questions, but Haaland is expected to return to the starting lineup to lead their attack.
Champions League Drama Awaits
The return of Kylian Mbappé adds excitement to an already thrilling Champions League encounter. While Real Madrid holds a strong advantage, European nights are famously unpredictable.
However, with Mbappé back in the squad and confidence high after their first-leg performance, Real Madrid looks well positioned to defend their lead and continue their pursuit of another Champions League title.
