Jayson Tatum has helped lead the Boston Celtics to the best record in the NBA this season. The C’s have played so well that they clinched the first seed in the Eastern Conference with 11 games left in the season.
Former second-overall pick, Michael Beasley, showed praise to Tatum for his play. He went as far as to compare him to LeBron James in terms of his future longevity.
“Bro is that athletic, he is going to play for 20 years, just as long as LeBron [James]. I ain’t saying that he’s going to be 40,000 [points] out, but he’s going to beat 30,000 [points].”
Michael Beasley said on The OGs podcast
At 26 years old, the future for Tatum is extremely bright. The Celtics are undoubtedly one of the favorites to win a championship. This would be a great opportunity for him to further his overall legacy.
In his 67 games played this year, Tatum has averaged 27.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. If the Celtics are going to reach their championship aspirations, they will have to rely on the six-foot-eight forward to do so.
“The boy, he just scores too simple. I wish he would calm it down sometimes.”
Michael Beasley
Whether Tatum has the longevity of a player like James or not will remain to be seen. One thing is for certain though, the future for Tatum and his Celtics is only going up. Hearing praise from a player who experienced James firsthand is certainly high praise.
With James in the twilight years of his career, the future of the NBA has been a major question mark. Tatum will remain one of those future players carrying the torch for the league.
