Snow has been falling in the Mackenzie Country overnight, closing roads and highways, and cancelling school buses.
On Tuesday morning Mt Dobson Ski Area business and snowsports manager James Lazor said the business was closed for the day because of heavy snow.

On Monday, a road snowfall warning was issued for Lindis Pass Rd (State Highway 8) from 8pm on Monday to 11am on Tuesday.

The MetService forecast says expect rain or showers and 10-15cm of snow to accumulate above 800 metres with lesser amounts lower down to 700 metres.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has also closed several roads, including SH8, Fairlie to Twizel (Burkes Pass), SH8 Ōmārama to Tarras (Lindis Pass), SH 73 Springfield to Arthurs Pass (Porters Pass) and SH73 Arthurs Pass to Otira, because of snow.

Other roads open, but with restrictions, include SH8 Ōmārama to Twizel, closed to towing vehicles, while SH 80 Mt Cook Rd is open to one lane because of a slip, and SH 82 Ōmārama to Otematata is closed to towing vehicles.
State Highway 80 Mt Cook Rd is open with caution.
Mackenzie College has also reported the Tekapo and Rollesby buses will not be running on Tuesday because of the snow.
