Cruz Beckham has admitted he was “nearly crying” before taking to the stage at Chicago’s Lollapalooza Festival on Saturday (01.08.26).

The 21-year-old singer son of David and Victoria Beckham called his famous parents before the gig for a confidence boost, before telling fans in a behind-the-scenes video that he was struggling to control his nerves ahead of the performance.
In the video shared to Instagram on Monday (03.08.26), Cruz said: “It’s Lollapalooza day. I am very nervous… Just the fact that people aren’t even there just to see us. That’s the thing.
“People are there to see other things as well. So like, this is just going to be a side quest to them. So it’s got to be really, really f****** good.
“I mean, I’m so grateful for this opportunity. I feel like I understand the privilege that I’ve been given and I just want to give the best show and be able to show people who I really am and show people what I can do.
“It’s going to be fun, but… I was on the phone to my mum and dad just now, and I was telling them how they can stream it and then I almost started crying over the comfort of being at home playing with the boys.”
Later in the video, Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel was seen offering her support and watching her beau doing his thing.
Despite his nerves, Cruz’s Lollapalooza set was met with positive reviews from critics.
With the Chicago Sun-Times’ Selena Fragassi writing: “A few people came to check out the performance wearing David Beckham’s jerseys, perhaps hoping for a celebrity sighting.
“The rocker’s parents, who’ve been very supportive on social media, weren’t at the gig, but it would’ve been a distraction, taking rightful attention away from the up-and-comer.
“Beckham’s songs, particularly Better Times, Optics and the singalong anthem Yeah Yeah Yeah are incredibly catchy numbers that seem destined for radio in the near future. In them, Beckham’s voice offers a nuanced pop/rock husk and he’s quite skilled on the guitar, shredding a few solos in the 45-minute set, including on a deft cover of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m on Fire.
“By the end, the crowd was shouting for an encore and a line assembled near the barricade waiting for autographs, which Beckham happily gave. It’s the stuff of rock stars, and he is well on his way to being one.”
