Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote has reflected on his side’s 2-0 away defeat to Rivers United in their opening game of the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season.
The Peace Boys suffered the defeat at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, with Abdulrasheed Dabai and Wasiu Falolu scoring for the hosts.
Ogunbote Rues Defeat To Rivers United
Ogunbote admitted that Plateau United’s slow start to the contest proved costly, although he was pleased with the team’s improved display after the break.
“The first half, we didn’t get it right. We made corrections, and things improved for us,” Ogunbote told the club’s media.

“We were able to play like a more balanced side in the second half, but unfortunately, the pitch didn’t allow for free-flowing football.
“Also, our reactions were a little slow and poor.”
“The game is gone, and we will take the positives from it into the next game.”
Plateau United will be hoping to bounce back quickly when they return to action on Matchday Two.
