The year 2022 marks a grand occasion for the Open Championship.
Because the 2020 edition was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this year marks the 150th playing of the Open Championship. The tournament will be held at the Old Course at St. Andrews — considered the oldest golf course in the world — for the first time since 2015.
Also of note: Tiger Woods will be in the field after he sat out this year’s U.S. Open. Any event he plays in will command attention from the golfing world, considering he has said that he will never play a full PGA Tour schedule again.
Beyond that, many of the storylines surrounding this year’s Open Championship involve the ongoing battle between the PGA Tour (and, to a lesser extent, the DP World Tour) and the LIV Golf Invitational Series. That battle will likely bubble under the surface throughout the tournament.

As for the betting favorites at this year’s Open Championship, BetMGM has installed Rory McIlroy, the 2014 Open champion and 2018 runner-up, as the early favorite (as of July 12) at +1000.
Following McIlroy are Xander Schauffele (+1400), who is coming off a win at last week’s Scottish Open; 2015 Open Championship winner Jordan Spieth (+1600); and the trio of 2021 U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm, 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and 2022 U.S. Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick at +1800. Collin Morikawa, who won this event in 2020, is tied for eighth-lowest odds at +2500. Tiger Woods is listed at +6600.

NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Open Championship will be presented primarily on three platforms: NBC, USA Network and Peacock.
American audiences will have to wake up early — or stay up late — to watch all the coverage provided by NBC. Thursday and Friday coverage of the Open, for example, will feature exclusive streaming content starting at 1:30 a.m. ET.
USA Network and NBC will each broadcast all four rounds of the event, though the number of hours per network will vary each day. TV coverage will begin no earlier than 4 a.m. and no later than 5 a.m. ET.

NBCUniversal has exclusive broadcast rights for the Open Championship, including streaming options. Those include NBCSports.com, Peacock and the NBC Sports App. Per NBCUniversal, Peacock will have exclusive group coverage — two groups each in the morning and afternoon — and live coverage of Holes 11-13.
Another streaming option for USA Network and NBC coverage is fuboTV, which offers a free trial.
