Osman Bukari sees red as Red Star Belgrade crash out to Viktoria Plzen

Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari was sent off as Red Star Belgrade suffered a painful Europa League playoff exit, losing 4-1 after extra time to Viktoria Plzen on Thursday, with the Czech side winning 5-4 on aggregate.

FC Viktoria Plzen started brightly, with Prince Kwabena Adu putting them ahead in the 8th minute. Red Star hit back almost immediately through Mirko Ivanic in the 11th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The turning point came just after the break. Bukari was shown a red card in the 54th minute, leaving the Serbian champions to play the majority of the match a man down. Adu then missed a penalty in the 51st minute before Denis Visinsky converted from the spot in the 58th to put Plzen in front.

Patrik Hrosovsky extended the lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute. Red Star held on, but a stoppage-time Christophe Kabongo penalty made it 4-1 at full time, forcing extra time given the aggregate scoreline. David Krcík sealed the win with a goal in the 96th minute, sending Plzen through 5-4 on aggregate and ending Red Star’s European campaign.
