Police are appealing for witnesses and footage after a woman was assaulted by two men in Wellington’s Mount Victoria.
Police were called to Austin Street about 11.40pm last Wednesday after the woman was randomly approached while putting rubbish out for collection.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch said the two men were standing on the footpath a short distance south of Derby Street before speaking briefly to the woman and producing weapons.
The offenders fled after neighbours heard the struggle and came to her assistance.
The woman suffered wounds to her arm.
The two men then ran south along Austin Street. A police dog handler tracked them to Porritt Avenue, where the trail was lost near the intersection with Ellice Street.
“We suspect they had a vehicle parked there and fled in it,” Leitch said.
Both men were described as muscular and wearing dark hoodies. One was about six feet tall, with the other slightly taller.
One was wearing a face covering, while the other had dark hair and a dark complexion.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw people on foot in the Austin Street or Ellice Street areas between 11.30pm and midnight, or saw vehicles leaving Ellice Street after the assault.
