While Chelsea were enjoying a thrilling game against Fulham under the lights at Craven Cottage, there was major breaking transfer news about a player they would like to get rid of.
Liam Delap has been up for sale all summer and is currently training separately from the rest of the squad.
Just a year after joining for £30m from Ipswich he’s up for sale, with the Blues slapping a very ambitious £50m price tag on him.
Forest keen on Delap – but terms of the deal don’t seem clear
It feels impossible they get £50m from anyone, but it does seem that Nottingham Forest are keen on a deal of some kind.
Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC has reported exclusively that the Tricky Trees are “working on a deal” to sign Delap, although it “remains unclear” whether it’s a loan or permanent deal being discussed.
The most likely feels a loan with an option. There’s long enough on his contract that it’s not a bad idea to let him build his value up a bit. We’re not getting £50m – but if he scores a few goals this season we might get our £30m back next year.
In other news…
Another player potentially leaving Chelsea is Enzo Fernandez – the way he acted at full time of the win over Fulham tonight gave some major clues about his future.
Xabi Alonso had one tricky topic he was asked about: Robert Sanchez’s form. He avoided blaming him for his mistakes.
