Scholarship scheme launched for Ga-Dangme students

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for greater investment in the education of Ga-Dangme youth to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible citizens and contribute to the development of the Ga-State.

He said educating the younger generation was critical to the future development of the Ga-State and the country as a whole.

The Ga Mantse made the call at the launch of the RNAQ Ga-Dangme Youth Scholarship Scheme in Accra on Monday, under the theme, “One Ga-Dangme, One Heart, Rising Together.”

The scholarship scheme, an initiative of the RNAQ Foundation, seeks to provide educational opportunities for brilliant and promising Ga-Dangme tertiary students facing financial difficulties.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II said the initiative would provide much-needed support to young people struggling to finance their tertiary education.

He stressed the need for the people of Ga-Dangme to remain united and committed to the development of the Ga-State, noting that the community had produced prominent individuals with the capacity and willingness to contribute to its growth.

He said a collective commitment to education, youth empowerment and development would help create a more enlightened society and enable young people to become responsible citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to the development of the Ga-State and Ghana.

The Founder and President of the RNAQ Foundation, Richard Nii Armah Quaye, said the decision to establish the scholarship scheme was partly prompted by the low number of Ga-Dangme students who had recently graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He said engagements with some Ga-Dangme students and young people revealed that financial difficulties were preventing many from pursuing higher education.

Mr Quaye said capable students should not be forced to abandon their education because of financial challenges, adding that the scholarship scheme would provide beneficiaries with the support needed to pursue their goals.

He also expressed concern about what he described as the inadequate involvement of the youth in development activities, saying a lack of unity among members of the Ga-State was hindering efforts to advance the community.

Mr Quaye said the Ga-Dangme people had the capacity to address the challenges confronting the community if they remained united and worked towards common development goals.

He said the long-term objective was to build a stronger and more united Ga-Dangme community.

Mr Quaye said the youth wanted to see the chiefs of the Ga-State unite and provide the leadership needed to drive development, adding that the lack of unity was depriving the Ga-State of opportunities for meaningful progress.
