Applied Angstrom Technology’s new facility targets the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing as AI demand strains global chip supply chains.
Applied Angstrom Technology (AAT) has opened the Atomic Precision Innovation Center (APIC) in Singapore, a research and development facility designed to advance wafer fabrication equipment for atomic-scale semiconductor manufacturing.
The facility, located at Yishun Industrial Park within 15 minutes of Singapore’s major fabs, spans more than 10,000 square feet and includes a 2,000-square-foot Class 100 (ISO 5) cleanroom. At full capacity, APIC can support the simultaneous development of more than three systems and deliver an annual turnaround of eight or more atomic-precision semiconductor systems.
Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) supported the project, which is also backed by investor iGlobe Partners and Sioux Technologies, a strategic partner collaborating with AAT on AI-native software development.
“As the global semiconductor industry enters the Angstrom Era, precision, speed and ecosystem proximity matter more than ever,” said Dr Richard Yang, Founder and CEO of AAT. “By mastering precision at the atomic scale and AI-native design, and with APIC being close to major foundries, suppliers and research partners, we aim to bolster Singapore’s role in deep tech innovation while contributing to the region’s long-term competitiveness in AI hardware.”
Yang, who pioneered Atomic Layer Etch and transitioned cryogenic etch to fab scale at Lam Research and Intel, founded AAT in Singapore in 2022. The company’s approach centres on building next-generation etch equipment from the ground up, powered by Agentic AI, rather than iterating on existing platform designs.
The opening comes as demand for advanced logic and memory devices accelerates with AI adoption. Chip architectures including high-bandwidth memory and high-density SSDs have placed mounting pressure on the global semiconductor equipment supply chain.
Wong Zeng Yi, Assistant Managing Director for Manufacturing at EnterpriseSG, said the facility reinforces Singapore’s standing as a semiconductor supply chain hub. “By supporting home-grown innovators like Applied Angstrom Technology, EnterpriseSG aims to anchor complex and technologically intensive capabilities that are foundational to the world’s AI hardware requirements,” he said.
AAT made its industry debut at SPIE Advanced Lithography and Nanopatterning in San Jose in February 2026, where it presented atomic precision etching results. Ted Taylor, a former senior leader at Intel, ASML and Micron, has been advising the company on technology and market strategy.
