Berlin (dpa) – The Supply Chain Act has been in force in Germany for one year, requiring companies to ensure fair working conditions in their supply chains. Up to now it has applied to companies with more than 3,000 employees, of which there are approximately 900 in Germany. From 1 January 2024 onwards it will apply to all companies with a workforce of over 1,000.
Among other things, the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) requires companies to check whether human rights violations such as forced labour or child labour occur in their supply chains. According to the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (Bafa), 486 inspections were carried out in 2023. The authority’s overall assessment is positive: for the most part, companies were successful in implementing the requirements.
