Uber Eats Launches First Online Restaurant Awards in Kenya

• Online food delivery company Uber Eats introduced the first-ever online restaurant awards in Kenya
• More than 10 restaurants and grocery stores were nominated by the platform, which gave Kenyans an opportunity to choose their best
• Kilimanjaro Restaurant, KFC, and Chandarana Supermarkets were among the best food delivery stores among customers

Kenyans have voted in their best online food delivery restaurants and stores in 2022.

Uber Eats, an online food delivery platform, introduced the merchant awards, the first of its kind in Kenya.

The company unveiled the winners of the Uber Eats Awards 2022 on Friday, November 25, at Ole Sereni hotel, Nairobi.

Uber Eats Awards celebrates restaurants selected by consumers and those selected for operational excellence on the platform.

Speaking to journalists, Uber Eats General Manager Kui Mbugua said the awards are customer driven.

“This is a combination of the people’s choice award, rewarding restaurants that have shown strong operations and customer experience.

“We are always leveraging the power of the Uber Eats platform to suit the needs of our customers, but we also need amazing restaurants and merchants,” said Mbugua.

Uber Eats delivery riders

Mbugua revealed that the company also awarded delivery riders through the Uber Eats Courrier Awards, with the top rider winning a motorbike.

The award went to Kilimanjaro for Best African Restaurant, KFC for Best Fast Food Restaurant, Java House for Best Coffee Restaurant and Artcaffe for Best Dessert Restaurant.

“At Artcaffe, we value our customers, which has kept us on top as the Best Dessert Restaurant.

“Our partnership with Uber Eats came in handy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. And we have realised growth in online food delivery, significantly growing our revenue,” said Victon Lugaga, General Manager at Artcaffe.

Khan’s Parkistani was named Best Indian/Pakistani Restaurant, Wok on Wheels as Best Chinese Restaurant, Mama Rocks as Best Burgers and Debonairs Pizza as Best Pizza Restaurant.

Mambo Italia emerged as the Best Italian Restaurant, while Chandarana Supermarkets won the Best Grocery Store award.

The Operational Excellence Champions category of the award highlighted leading restaurants after a turbulent few years in the hospitality industry.

Winners included Best Merchant Prep Time, won by KFC, Best Online Rate, won by Cold Stone Creamery Yaya and Lowest Order Accuracy Issues, won by Mint Shack.
