WEIRTON — The West Virginia Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Women Educators Organization met Oct. 7 with 14 members present at Garden Grill Steakhouse in Weirton.
President Diane Higgins opened the meeting with a welcome to the membership. Chaplain Bonnie Queses gave the “Thought for the Day.” She shared a true story, “A Dollar 11 Miracle” from the “Top 100 Motivational Stories, The Best Inspirational Short Stories and Anecdotes of All Time.”
Secretary Ruth Fuller read the September minutes, which were approved. Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report.
Alpha Delta Kappa Month Chairman Susan Cullinan presented a program in cooperation with fraternity education.
She asked members to write answers to her initial questions on a form and noted that the theme for the 2021-23 biennium is “Share the Love.” Through love, the founders had a vision for outstanding educators, and that love grew into chapters located in towns and cities in every state of the United States and around the world — Australia, Canada, Jamaica, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Cullinan explained. Members shared their responses with the group.
Altruistic Chairman Margo Polk distributed a form for members to record their voluntary hours, non-monetary donations and monetary donations in the name of Alpha Delta Kappa. Copies will be sent to the chapter president, treasurer and secretary.
Polk collected a love offering during the meeting for the teachers in Waverly, Tenn., where a flood destroyed schools and classroom supplies and necessities. The donation will be given to an elementary school in that area.
The budget was set for the next term through the work of committee members Carolyn Allison, Ruth Fuller and Liz Pugh. Members had an opportunity to view the budget with questions and answers acknowledged by Allison. Discussion was held on birthday dues.
Members were encouraged to attend the Ohio Valley Fall District Meeting that will be held at Froehlich’s Classic Corner in Steubenville on Saturday and hosted by Alpha Kappa Chapter.
Higgins conducted a re-installment ceremony for Lola Bender during Alpha Delta Kappa Month.
Members with birthdays were acknowledged. Decorations had a Halloween theme.
Hostesses for the meeting were Nancy Conley and Bonnie Queses.
Sister concerns were acknowledged by the members.
The next meeting will be Nov. 4 at a location to be announced.
Hostesses will be Janet Benzo, Sandi Anderson and Nancy Deters.
