The City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management (DRM) teams have been sent to various areas in Cape Town for mop-up operations after massive fires ripped through several informal settlements over the weekend, leaving hundreds of people destitute.
At least 339 structures were destroyed, affecting 759 people.
One of the fires occurred on Sunday morning, and 200 structures were destroyed, affecting 410 people in Mfuleni. The same day, a fire also broke out in Doornbach (ZweZwe) and destroyed 71 structures, affecting 158 residents.
