In the NBA, there are no perfect plans. If there were an exact formula for success, everyone would try to follow it. Since only one team can win the NBA title, that would cancel the formula out.
For example, rebuilding an NBA team is an inexact science. Generally, it’s understood that young teams should hold off on acquiring win-now veterans until their young core starts to win games on their own accord.
With that said, those are not hard and fast rules. If an NBA team wants to jumpstart their rebuild, nobody can stop them.
For example, the Detroit Pistons appear eager to win next season. They’ve already acquired solid, win-now veterans like Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and Kemba Walker this summer.

Perhaps they feel confident enough in their young core of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Saddiq Bey, and Jalen Duren that they’re not interested in returning to the lottery after the 2022-23 season.
In that event, why not push further all-in by acquiring Draymond Green from the Golden State Warriors?
