Milwaukee in February is packed with charm and excitement! Here are things to do in Milwaukee in February!

Milwaukee in February may not sound like the most exciting vacation idea.

But, if you know where to find the best activities in the city, it can be.

Believe me, winter is one of the best times to travel Wisconsin, especially Milwaukee.

You won’t deal with crowded places. The annual Winter Farmers Market is open. And you can try so many activities that you can only enjoy during the snow season!

In this post, I’ll share with you the top things to do in Milwaukee in February.

From outdoor activities like ice skating and cross-country skiing to indoor experiences —this post is perfect for every type of traveler visiting Milwaukee this coming winter!

Overview: My Favorite Things to Do in Milwaukee in February

1. Attend the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market

Nothing can capture the winter spirit of Milwaukee as much as its Winter Farmers Market.

It’s a melting pot of the best local vendors in Milwaukee.

So, from coffee, handicrafts, and clothes to produce—you’re bound to find all kinds of treasures at this indoor festival!

Despite the cold outdoors, this event will warm you up as you talk with locals, purchase handmade goods, and enjoy warm drinks.

There aren’t too many produce options in February, but this is when most artisans proudly introduce their latest creations to the market!

This is definitely one of the best indoor festivals in Milwaukee and one of my top-recommended things to do in Wisconsin in February.

2. Go on a Milwaukee Walking Tour

a river with boats and red brick buildings, Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Historic Third Ward Neighborhooda river with boats and red brick buildings, Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Historic Third Ward Neighborhood

Milwaukee has so many hidden gems that it’s not always clear where you should start exploring the city.

But no need to feel overwhelmed. If you join a Milwaukee walking tour like I often do, you’ll get to see the best landmarks and learn about their stories in just several hours!

I love to think of this tour as the “syllabus” of what you can expect and discover from the city.

You’ll get to visit landmarks like the Historic Third Ward, the RiverWalk, and iconic downtown spots where you can learn about Milwaukee’s past as you stroll.

But since you’ll only stay briefly in each spot, you can revisit each landmark and stay as long as you’d like!

This tour is an amazing way to jumpstart or wrap up your stay in the city. It’s one of the best things to do in Milwaukee in February!

3. Enjoy Ice Skating at Red Arrow Park

Join the locals and glide across the ice at Red Arrow Park’s iconic rink, Slice of Ice.

Visiting this free winter attraction is a cherished tradition among locals, and there’s no better place to soak in the city’s winter charm!

You can rent skates for as low as $11 and enjoy skating to your heart’s content.

Starbucks and many other cafes and restaurants are adjacent to the rink, so you can always enjoy a hot beverage whenever it gets chilly!

This will always be one of the top things to do in downtown Milwaukee in winter.

And if you can’t skate, take this as your sign to try something new and learn during your stay in the city!

Anytime you’re running out of things to do, Downtown Milwaukee’s Slice of Ice has your back!

4. Attend a Milwaukee Bucks Game at Fiserv Forum

Sports lovers, this is your chance to watch professional NBA players in action up close!

Milwaukee Bucks home games are at the Fiserv Forum, and tickets can be as low as $20 (or even cheaper) per game.

I’m no basketball fanatic, but I still grabbed the chance to watch live professional athletes for way cheaper than a fancy meal.

The energy was through the roof, everything was exciting and electrifying, and overall, we just had so much fun in the arena!

There were lots of families with kids watching the game, so it’s no exaggeration to say that watching the Milwaukee Bucks is one of the best things to do in Milwaukee with kids.

5. Warm Up with Local Breweries’ Winter Ales

The perfect way to combat the chilly winter in Milwaukee is to warm up with the local breweries’ winter ales.

If you didn’t know already, the city is widely regarded as one of the biggest brewing capitals in the United States!

My go-to brewery is the Lakefront Brewery (its $13 brewery tour that includes a souvenir pint glass is one of the best things to do in Milwaukee in February).

But pretty much every local brewery in the city produces a unique, flavorful winter ale!

That said, one of the best things to do in Milwaukee in January up to February is to go on a Milwaukee guided brewery tour.

This 4-hour tour lets you explore 4 different breweries, including Lakefront Brewery, Milwaukee Brewing Co., and the Broken Bat Brewing Co.

Taste up to 16 different beers as you enjoy one of the most fun things to do in Milwaukee at night!

6. Visit the Milwaukee Art Museum

Now, let’s talk about the classic all-year-round attraction in Wisconsin—the Milwaukee Art Museum.

This place is a must-visit regardless of when you visit Milwaukee, but in February, it’s much more appealing. It offers a nice way to escape the cold and enjoy indoor warmth with your loved ones.

So, what can you expect from this museum?

Right off the bat, you’re met with an iconic architectural masterpiece, equipped with wings that open and close.

Inside, you’ll be treated to over 30,000 works of art, along with an art studio, cozy café, and a special rotating exhibition.

Visiting this museum is one of the best things to do in Milwaukee in February or any other month! You can do it with a self-guided audio tour, too!

7. Take a Winter Hike at Havenwoods State Forest

Havenwoods State Forest stays true to its name as a haven for outdoor and hiking enthusiasts.

I’ve been there several times, across different seasons, and I must say—whether the flowers are in bloom, the sun’s shining, or the fresh snow, the Milwaukee hiking trails here never disappoint.

So, consider winter hiking at this hidden gem when you’re looking for adventurous things to do in Milwaukee in February.

You’ll experience beautiful, well-maintained trails covered in snow in an almost magical setting. Plus, you’re likely to spot wildlife such as birds and, if lucky, a deer.

Trails here are relatively flat, so you shouldn’t feel like you’re hiking. But of course, wear proper gear to avoid slips as you enjoy one of the best winter activities in Milwaukee.

8. Discover Milwaukee’s Theater and Live Music

red theater seats getting blurry as the rows go backred theater seats getting blurry as the rows go back

Milwaukee has a very vibrant theatre culture, and its various venues are most active during the winter season, when everybody’s enjoying indoor activities!

So, if you’re still looking for things to do in Milwaukee WI, why not try attending at least one theatre performance?

You can visit the largest theater in town, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, which hosts various productions, including Broadway-style musicals, classic plays, and contemporary dramas.

If you want a historic venue, visit the Pabst Theatre, built in 1895.

For days filled with live music, dance events, and a festival-like atmosphere, the Turner Hall Ballroom has shows waiting for you to join!

Visiting theatres is always one of the best things to do in Milwaukee in March or February!

9. Indulge in Milwaukee’s Comfort Food Scene

bratwurst between tongs and a few bratwurst being grilledbratwurst between tongs and a few bratwurst being grilled

We’re finally getting to one of my favorite things to do in winter in Milwaukee—indulging in Milwaukee’s comfort food scene.

Winter’s cold weather makes me hungrier than usual, so February is the perfect time to enjoy Wisconsin’s best comfort food.

My top favorite dishes in Milwaukee include cheese curds, fish fries, and bratwurst. I’d never turn down the city’s cream puffs or frozen custard for dessert, so make sure to try them as well!

If you’re like me, who considers exploring the food scene as an activity, not just eating, joining Milwaukee food tours is one of the best things to do in Milwaukee.

They walk you through the best spots in the local food scene and introduce you to friends along the way!

Enjoy hearty dishes, local delicacies, and warm drinks, perfect for the winter season.

Whenever I’m too tired looking for more things to do, Milwaukee’s food scene always saves the day and gives me comfort.

11. Try Cross-Country Skiing at Whitnall Park

12 Things to do in Milwaukee in Februarya person in a the snow climbing with a ski winter activities in Wisconsin, Cross Country Skiing around the best ski cabins in Wisconsin

Good food always fuels my energy for outdoor sports, bringing me to another must-try winter activity in Milwaukee: cross-country skiing at Whitnall Park.

It’s one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful snow-covered landscape and reconnect with nature.

And, of course, it’s a great workout to burn off all those delicious calories from Milwaukee’s rich food scene!

Have you never tried cross-country skiing before? No worries!

Whitnall Park offers beginner-friendly trails where you can safely dive into the sport.

Plus, cross-country skiing is easier to pick up than regular skiing (though it’s still a great physical challenge), so you’ll be skiing like a pro in no time!

12. Explore the Domes at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory

two glass domes on a snowy land, Domes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.two glass domes on a snowy land, Domes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Let’s wrap this list up with one of the most romantic things to do in Milwaukee: exploring the Domes at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory.

This conservatory features three glass-enclosed domes that act as living museums showcasing unique landscapes.

The Tropical Dome, with its rainforest-type environment, includes a waterfall.

The Floral Dome houses living flowers and a seasonal floral train show featuring 600 feet of train tracks.

And, the most breathtaking of all, the Desert Dome provides an oasis, warmth inside regardless of how thick the snow is outside!

These domes are open year-round, from 9 AM to 5 PM. If you love your experience here, take day trips from Milwaukee to visit other beautiful green spaces like the Boerner Botanical Gardens, a short drive away.

Aren’t there so many unique things to do in Milwaukee in February?

Whether you want to explore indoor or outdoor activities in Milwaukee, the city will keep you entertained!

So, don’t believe when others say, “You should visit the city in summer instead.”

There are also amazing things to do in winter in Wisconsin. In fact, I love spending colder months in the state so much that I’ve visited it way more during the “off-season” than I ever have over the summer!

Book your Milwaukee tickets for February. You won’t regret it!
