Android gaming is getting bigger and better every month, it seems, and there is always a slew of new titles coming to Google Play. Whether you’re a casual gamer or you want something with a bit more meat on its bones, there’s usually a game coming out to suit everyone’s taste. Some months are better than others, but there is usually at least one great new game on mobile every month. Let’s take a look at the best new Android games from the last month! You can also check out our picks for the best new Android games released in all of 2021.
The best free Android games from September 2022
Infinite Magicraid
Price: Free to play
Infinite Magicraid is a gacha RPG. It’s fairly typical in terms of gameplay. You summon creatures, use them to defeat bad guys, and upgrade them as you go to make it to the end of the game. Each story mission has multiple waves of bad guys, and, in later stages, resource management and dealing tons of damage is needed to make it to the end. Like most, it’ll give you a lot of freebies in the early game to keep you going, but it does get grindy once you hit mid-game and late-game. It’s free to play and has a lot of the same pitfalls as others in terms of paying for progression.
Iron Marines Invasion
Price: $4.99 with in-app purchases
Iron Marines Invasion is a spin-off of the popular tower defense game Iron Marines. This one is an RTS game of sorts. You take troops through levels while defeating bad guys and bosses. Players unlock various power-ups and abilities as they progress to make things easier. There are more than 25 campaign missions, 70 special operations, and a variety of heroes and weapons to help you out. There are also more than 20 achievements to earn for your completionists out there. It’s a good game by a good developer, and the in-app purchases are optional.
The Legend of Neverland
Price: Free to play
The Legend of Neverland is an MMORPG with an anime theme. It plays like most other mobile MMORPGs for the most part. There is an open world to explore, quests to do, bosses to kill, and a story to play through. On the plus side, it has an above-average character creator, pretty scenery, and the story is decent. On the downside, the English translations are rough, and the AFK elements limit engagement with the game. It’s decent overall and there are certainly worse MMORPGs with more downloads than this one.
Masha and the Bear: Farm Games
Price: Free / $2.99 per month / $19.99 per year
Masha and the Bear: Farm Games is a kids’ game based on the popular Russian TV show fo the same name. It teaches kids the basics of gardening while also using a host of lovable characters and cute animals. It’s a pretty simple little game, so adults may not find it terribly engaging. However, it is designed for kids. The gameplay loop is about the same as Farmville. You grow crops, sell them to make money, and use that money to do more stuff. There is a subscription cost with this one, which we found weird, but you don’t need to play the full game.
ScourgeBringer
Price: $6.99
ScourgeBringer is a roguelite platformer. You make your way through the game by dodging attacks, taking out enemies, and defeating bosses. Its frenetic gameplay is intense, and the bullet hell-style attacks from bosses are fun to dodge and avoid. Every part of this game is high-octane, from the attack-only style of play to the high-tempo soundtrack. We think it’s a pretty good time. There are also plenty of things to discover as you make your way around the game world. It’s a premium game, so there are no in-app purchases or ads to ruin the good time.
Sniper Zombie 2: Crime City
Price: Free to play
Sniper Zombie 2: Crime City is the second game in the reasonably successful Sniper Zombie series. It’s also nice to see sniper games still releasing since we haven’t seen a new one in a while. This one includes over 100 missions, daily missions to keep things interesting, and an online PvP mode if you care to try it. There are also over 150 weapons to collect. The gameplay is pretty typical of a sniper game. You end up a perch, shoot zombies, and move around as needed. It’s a pretty good game, even if the microtransactions are a little aggressive.
Soccer Manager 2023
Price: Free / $5.49-$28.49 with in-app purchases
Soccer Manager 2023 is the latest game in the popular soccer simulator series. It lets you manage your own soccer club. You have 900 to choose from across 35 countries, along with 25,000 players that you can recruit. As the manager, you have control over things like tactics, training, selecting your starters, buying and selling players, and a lot more.
It’s relatively solid for a soccer simulator, and since it’s one of only a few franchises on mobile, it’s nice to see some competition in the space. The only bad part is that the game is rather buggy, and many players from previous games say that the previous game is better. Still, it’s early on, so the developers have plenty of time to fix it.
Star Trek Lower Decks Mobile
Price: Free to play
Star Trek Lower Decks Mobile is an idle game that takes place in the Star Trek universe. The story starts when you get trapped in the holodeck. To get out, you must relive classic moments in the Star Trek universe. Yes, it’s a nostalgia play. The game functionally plays itself, and you just have to make decisions on how to spend your resources. That makes it a decently chill experience. Like most new games, this one is a bit buggy, but most of it seems to be optimization issues. It’s not bad, and we hope it gets better with time.
Ys Online: The Ark of Napishtim
Price: Free to play
Ys Online: The Ark of the Napishtim is a mobile MMORPG with gacha elements. As you can plainly see, this one is based in the Ys universe. Like the Star Trek game listed above, this one is a bit of a nostalgia play. There are cameos from characters in previous games. Players choose between four classes to start, and, like most, each class has its own strengths, weaknesses, and playstyle. From there, you go on quests, solve puzzles, defeat bosses, and dive into dungeons. The controls are a bit clunky and take up a lot of screen real estate, but the game plays nicely. You can even turn off the idle elements.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel
Price: Free to play
Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel is the latest card dueling game from the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise. This one promises to fix issues from the previous mobile Yu-Gi-Oh games and be more fun to play. It’s a fairly standard card dueler. You collect cards, build a deck, and duel against others. You can also partner with characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh series. Strengthening your bonds with those characters also helps you win. This one includes some very good animations, although some players don’t like how long the animations take. It’s definitely something to try for fans of the series.
