The US has announced new sanctions on Moscow after Russia annexed four regions of Ukraine. Under this, the US has banned hundreds of Russian citizens, companies and military-industrial establishments as well as members of the legislature.
Those banned include Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, 109 members of parliament, the Federal Council and its 169 members, and Central Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina.
Britain has also frozen Elvira’s assets by banning her. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement that Putin is fraudulently trying to annex parts of Ukraine. In such a situation, we will not keep watching silently. Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said that we completely reject Russia’s attempts to change Ukraine’s border.
The finance ministry said those who provided political and economic aid to Russia would also be banned. According to ANI, the US Embassy in Moscow has asked its citizens living in Russia to leave immediately. The US has taken this step after Russia began mobilizing its citizens in support of the armed forces.
The embassy issued a security alert, saying that Russia may refuse to accept people with dual citizenship and American citizens. Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Western countries of damaging the Russia-Germany gas pipeline. He said that after imposing sanctions, Western countries are now carrying out terrorist attacks on Russia.
They have damaged the gas pipeline. Without naming any country, he said that the one who will benefit from it has done this work. The US and its allies rejected Putin’s allegations. The European Union said that Russia is benefiting, not Europe, from the chaos in the energy market. According to IANS, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service director Sergei Naryshkin said there was evidence that Western countries were behind the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline.
