Kenyan Newspapers, October 10: Rigathi Gachagua Hints KK Loyalists Will Be Rewarded Before Latecomers

One of the dailies also reported on Gachagua’s message to politicians who joined Kenya Kwanza immediately after the August 9 polls.

1. Daily Nation

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua implied that politicians who rallied behind Kenya Kwanza in the lead-up to the August 9 General Election will be prioritised in state appointments.

This would be at the expense of other politicians who joined the faction after the elections.

Speaking in Uasin Gishu county during a thanksgiving service, the deputy president alluded that those whose input was not felt during the pre-election campaigns would be considered for government positions after the pioneers had been rewarded.

According to him, positions would be given in line with the contribution one made during the campaigns.

In the same breath, the deputy president lauded National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for his input that contributed to Kenya Kwanza’s victory.

“I want to say thank you to Wetang’ula and the people of Bungoma and Trans Nzoia. Your votes helped us a lot,” he said.

Immediately after the elections, Kenya Kwanza welcomed a host of politicians, most of whom defected from the rivalling Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

The deputy president’s sentiments came in the wake of the shortlisting of candidates eyeing the Principal Secretaries (PSs) positions.

2. Taifa Leo

The newspaper reported on President William Ruto’s two-day state visit to Tanzania.

This came after a one-day official tour to Uganda, where he graced the country’s 60th independence day celebrations.

He arrived in Dar es Salaam on the evening of Sunday, October 9.

He is scheduled to hold talks with his Tanzanian counterpart, President Suluhu Hassan, on Monday, October 10.

This would be Ruto’s third international trip in less than a week.

Before landing in Kampala, the president was in Ethiopia, where he witnessed the expansion of the Safaricom market.

3. The Standard

The publication reported on the ongoing recruitment for the director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has shortlisted 10 candidates suitable for the position.

The position fell vacant following the resignation of George Kinoti over undisclosed reasons, in an announcement made by President William Ruto.

According to an advertisement made in the local dailies, 10 candidates were selected from 253 applications received after the position was advertised on September 30, 2022.

NPSC has since invited the shortlisted candidates for interviews and vetting on Tuesday, October 11, at Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
