Michael Mithamo King’ori Ordained as Catholic Church of Kenya First Blind Priest

This is the case for Reverend Deacon Michael Mithamo King’ori of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri who has defied all odds to attain a new status in his life.

Jubilation and thanksgiving during the event

On Saturday, January 14, there was jubilation and thanksgiving to God as the Catholic Church in Kenya witnessed the extraordinary ordination of Mithamo as the first blind priest in Kenya.

“His is a story of “with God, all things are possible.” Congratulations to Fr Michael Mithamo and gratitude to Most Rev Anthony Muheria for granting such a fete of grace,” Radio Maria Kenya announced.

TUKO.co.ke understands that Muheria was assisted by Reverend Peter Kairu, emeritus of Nyeri, at Kiamuiru Catholic Parish, St. John Bosco Kiamuiru Primary School grounds.

Other priests ordained alongside Mithamo

Others who were ordained alongside Mithamo were; Alexander Murage Wanjiku, Joseph Waihenya Kirira, George Gitonga Wamuyu, Mathew Karimi Njogu and John Wanjohi Nyawira.

Their ordination comes after Maria Carola was beautified to sainthood on Saturday, November 5, at an event held at Kinoru Stadium in Meru county.

The announcement of the beatification was authorised by Pope Francis in December 2021 and later announced by the Sisters of St. Joseph Cottelengo after a miracle attributed to her was recognised.

TUKO.co.ke understands that this is the second beatification in Kenya after that of Sister Irene Stefani Nyaatha in May 2015.

The Italian-born Catholic nun born in Padua, Northern Italy, is celebrated for her commitment and dedicated service in Meru Diocese, where she served for 20 years.

Kenya’s second beatification

The miracle attributed to Venerable Servant of God Maria Carola happened at Gatung’a in Tharaka-Nithi county, where a woman being attended by nurse sisters gave birth to a boy with no heartbeat.

One of the Sisters, identified as Katherine, addressed a heartfelt prayer to Sister Carola and the newborn baby named Msafiri Hilary Kiama began to breathe 30 minutes later.

The incident is said to have happened in April 2013, and nine years later, the child continues to live in peace.

Sister Carola, a member of the Sisters of Jose Cottelengo, died in November 1925 aboard a ship on the Red Sea as she travelled from Kenya to Italy for treatment.
