A shocked Labour Party caucus will leave Napier today, deliberating on who is best to lead them into the next election.
MPs had gathered to plan for the year ahead, but are now instead mulling over will replace Jacinda Ardern.
Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson has already ruled himself out.
Ministers Chris Hipkins, Michael Wood, Megan Woods and Kiri Allan are considered possible contenders – but no-one has publicly declared their candidacy.
Labour’s caucus will gather at Parliament on Sunday to vote for their next leader.
The successful candidate will need the support of two-thirds of the caucus.
