SINGAPORE, 20 January 2023 – Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), with support from the Republic Polytechnic of Singapore and the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), concluded the third cycle of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Project Proposal Writing Training for Myanmar officials today.
The online training was hosted by the Myanmar-Singapore Cooperation Centre in Yangon on 9-20 January and was attended by 28 Myanmar officials from 20 ministries, the City Development Committee of Mandalay, Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, and the Union Civil Service. The Republic Polytechnic of Singapore facilitated the first part of the training from 9-13 January while ASEC continued the second half on 16-20 January.
ASEC trained the officials on how to develop a regional project proposal and manage the ASEAN cooperation projects (ACPs) using a results-based management approach that includes budget formulation, fund disbursements, and reporting. Meanwhile, the ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund Management Team shared their experience in project proposal development from an ASEAN partner’s perspective. The participants also learned about the mechanism to tap into available resources for ACPs and the processes throughout the ASEAN project cycle.
Following the five-day training with ASEC, participants developed four drafts of regional project proposals on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Remedy Plan for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV); improving water resource management in CLM; enhancing food safety measures in CLMV; and improved air quality in the urban areas of ASEAN Countries.
At the end of the training, all participants received a certificate jointly issued by Singapore’s MFA and ASEC.
