Nearly 300 Russian soldiers, who were deployed in the Luhansk region in Ukraine, were reportedly stuck in the warzone, unable to return home, despite their contracts expiring.
Authorities in Ukraine said these soldiers were not even receiving their allowances.
“As of January 9, three-month contracts expired for soldiers in one of the units of the occupiers’ force operating in Luhansk region. Due to this, nearly 300 servicemen have been stripped of allowances. At the same time, they are not being dismissed from service in the wake of the ongoing mobilization,” Ukraine’s General Staff said in an update on Facebook.
The latest news comes a day after an intercepted call was released by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, where a Russian soldier complained about the situation on the frontline.
In a conversation, the Russian soldier also spoke of the casualties his unit was suffering.
“They’re f—– pummeling us non-stop – it’s a f—— mortar attack. Oh. F—. It’s hell there, Misha. I don’t want to talk about it… It’s all f—– up. It’s basically a meat grinder,” the Russian soldier said, as translated by Ukrainska Pravda. “Our commander and his deputy are Cargo 300 [wounded – ed.] and the guy next to us is Cargo 200 [dead].”
The soldier also complained about the lack of food and drinking water on the frontline, saying that one and a half bottles of water a day are shared by two people.
In November last year, a group of soldiers from Russia’s 155th Marine Brigade published a letter expressing their anger against the Russian command.
“Once again, we were thrown into an incomprehensible offensive by General Muradov and his fellow countryman Akhmedov, in order for Muradov to earn bonuses over Gerasimov and Akhmedov Muradov promised a hero of Russia,” the soldiers said in the letter, which was widely shared on Telegram (Google Translate showed). “As a result of the ‘carefully’ planned offensive by the ‘great generals’, we lost about 300 people in 4 days, killed, wounded and missing.”
The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces wrote on Facebook on Thursday that the Russian military was preparing for an offensive on certain fronts, and making attempts to advance on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Novopavlivka fronts.
