During the Saturday night NBA slate, the Golden State Warriors held off a late rally by a shorthanded Dallas Mavericks team playing without Luka Doncic, winning 119-113.
After making five of its first eight shots, Golden State led 11-2 and forced a Mavericks timeout 2:36 into the game. Another big bench performance helped Golden State establish a 40-23 lead after the first quarter. Both teams largely kept pace with one another until the fourth quarter.
The Warriors dealt with an injury to their superstar after Stephen Curry injured his leg in the third quarter. This ruled him out for the remainder of the game. He recorded 21 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in his shortened performance. He underwent an X-ray at the arena and the results were negative. He will undergo an MRI.
“Any time a guy’s going to get an MRI there’s a concern level, for sure,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “So we’ll just have to wait and see the results.”

The Mavericks outscored the Warriors 27-17 in the fourth quarter after entering the period down 102-86. Hardaway’s 3-pointer with 1:28 left gave the Mavericks a chance to get within 116-111, but the Warriors pulled it off even with Curry sidelined.
Draymond Green contributed 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, JaMychal Green put up 14 points, and Jonathan Kuminga and Donte DiVincenzo each scored 13.
“I think when we get down the stretch we stop doing the things that worked,” Green said. “When you have something that works all game long you don’t go away from it.”
For the Mavericks, Spencer Dinwiddie scored 25 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 22 and Dorian Finney-Smith scored 18 points. Without Doncic, they were without a player averaging 33.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game on the season. Dallas is 0-7 when he doesn’t play.

According to Mavs coach Jason Kidd, Doncic will also miss Monday’s game against the Utah Jazz, and then the team will assess his status from there. Another storyline to monitor is the team’s reported trade interest in NBA All-Star starter Kyrie Irving, who is expected to be moved before the February 9th deadline.
