Hai Phong is a vibrant city located in the northeastern part of Vietnam. With its rich history, stunning natural beauty, and bustling streets, there are plenty of things to see and do here.
In recent years, young people have been whispering to each other the phrase “Food tour Hai Phong.” In general, it is very interesting to see people’s reviews, because Hai Phong has many delicious dishes and is also cheap.
So on a beautiful day, our group was excited to plan and backpack to Hai Phong. Due to the lack of preparation, there are still some things that are wrong, but overall, we still have a super fun trip, with the purpose of going on a Food tour but still have a lot of virtual live photos.
1. Movement
🚗 Hanoi – Hai Phong: You can choose to go by train, bus, limousine or motorbike.
+ By train, it takes about 2.5 hours, cost 90K VND/time.
+ Limousine is faster (about 1.5h), cost 200-250K / way.
Motorbikes are definitely cheap and active, but suitable for those who like backpacking.
+ Passenger car: There will be 2 roads, Highway 5B or Road 5. We choose to take the 5B expressway, it will be faster (about 2 hours), and going to Road 5 will take about 2.5 hours. Price 100K/time.
We chose Anh Huy bus. Overall the quality is quite good, on time, the car runs ok. On average, there is 1 turn every 20-30 minutes.
+ Afternoon Hanoi – Hai Phong: Catch the car at Viglacera Tower (No. 1 Thang Long Avenue) at 7am to take the highway. You can catch them at Giap Bat bus station. The drop off point is Lac Long bus station (Hai Phong).
+ Afternoon Hai Phong – Hanoi: Catch the bus at Lac Long bus station (Hai Phong) at 5am, get off at BigC Thang Long, end point is Yen Nghia bus station (Hanoi).
🚗 Moving in Hai Phong: We traveled in groups so we went by taxi and on foot. We booked taxi through Grab/Be.
2. What to eat?
In general, if we go to have 1 day to try many dishes, our strategy is not to eat too much of each dish so that we can enjoy many dishes. And here are the foods we ate:
✔️ Spicy Fish Noodles (66 Le Loi) – 25K VND/bowl: This restaurant is quite famous in Hai Phong.
✔️ Candied Coconut Sweet Soup – 25K/cup: Coconut pickled is famous for Hai Phong, we tried it with yoghurt pickled coconut, it was not sweet, there were pearls but the yogurt taste was a bit too much, so we lost it. the taste of grated coconut.
✔️ Tea of all kinds (Suong Sa Tea in Co Dao market) – 10K/cup: This shop is the most crowded and delicious in this market, there are many types of tea, delicious and satisfying.
✔️ Snacks (Co Dao market): There are also many cakes here such as filter cake, shrimp roll cake, eating quite well. People can call and they will bring it to the tea shop for you.
✔️ Crab spring rolls (92 Tran Nhat Duat) – 60K/nem, 50k/barbecue: This restaurant is quite famous, crispy shell spring rolls, full of crab flavor, delicious sauce. Grilled meat is also very ok.
✔️ Crab Banh Da (79 Tran Nhat Duat) – 80K/bowl: Because it’s the price of 80K, this bowl is quite full, with shrimp, surface, crab meat, fish cake, and a tasty bar broth.
✔️ Snails (Chu Van An Market): Hai Phong snails are delicious and famous. There are many snail shops in Hai Phong. Thuy Duong snails have many dishes to choose from, but the price is a bit high. Eating in other places is a bit less but it’s ok and much cheaper. We arrived early at 2 o’clock, but Oc Thuy Duong (263 Lach Tray) opened at 3:30 pm, so we had to go to another restaurant. The place we ate at Chu Van An was also crowded, but here there are few dishes, the price is moderate, the food is also normal, not very special.
✔️ Gia Be (Chu Van An Market) – 150K/2 dishes: This dish is very strange but I heard it’s also a specialty of Hai Phong, so we tried the fried bean sprouts and bean sprouts salad. Crispy, tasteless, bland. Note that this dish has many people with allergies, after eating or having an itchy throat. I also feel the same after eating 1-2 pieces, so if anyone is prone to allergies, please consider.
✔️ Cafe 1986 (33 Dinh Tien Hoang) – Average 55K/drink: This is the biggest and most beautiful cafe in Hai Phong. That’s true! In general, the drinks are delicious, beautiful, reasonably priced, and the bar is super big.
✔️ Spicy bread (37 Dinh Tien Hoang) – 2.5K/piece: Right next to Cafe 1986 is a very popular and delicious Thai Spicy bread and sweet soup restaurant, don’t forget to try this specialty of Hai Phong to see if it’s any different. compared to Hanoi?
3. Where to visit?
Because the main purpose is to eat, we only stopped by Hai Phong Station (near Co Dao Market) to check in a bit. In addition, we took advantage of taking photos and took a short lunch break at Cafe 1986.
In general, Hai Phong has a lot of dishes, many places to eat with very reasonable prices, Hai Phong people are quite friendly, when asked for directions, everyone is very enthusiastic. You can go 1 day, 2 days depending. If you want to go in a group of many people, and do not need to make a specific plan, you can choose to go for a day like us.
