The Greens have been accused of delaying climate policy amid their refusal to support the Safeguard Mechanisms bill in the Senate unless Labor stops all coal and gas projects.
“Is the legislation that the government’s currently putting forward perfect – absolutely not,” Independent MP Kylea Tink told Sky News Australia.
“But if we don’t start, we end up going nowhere.
“So I think a fundamental to understanding where we’re going is this is a process of transition.
“I don’t support new coal and gas projects, I don’t believe we need any more gas in the country, but I would hate to see this legislation fall over simply because of that rule at the moment.”
