Sometimes, you’ve got to create a problem to solve another one. NBA teams can fall into the same trap.
At the same time, that’s never optimal. Now you’ve got another problem to solve. You can rob Peter to pay Paul – the problem is, you’ve not committed robbery.
They may have an issue with their roster construction that they need to fix. Sometimes, they’ll create another problem in the process of fixing it.
For example, look at the Atlanta Hawks. They acquired Dejounte Murray to cover for Trae Young’s poor perimeter defense this summer.
Unfortunately, the two don’t appear to be a great pairing on offense.
Could they move Murray this summer already?
