Argentinean forward, Julian Alvarez has signed an one-year extension at Manchester City until June 2028.
Alvarez joined Man City from River Plate in July 2022 and has proceeded to score 10 goals in 33 senior appearances this season for the Citizens, plus four goals for Argentina en-route to their 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph.
City have consequently swooped to tie Alvarez down with an one-year contract extension to his current deal, meaning that he will remain at the Etihad Stadium until June 2028.
Speaking after he signed his new contract just months after he first joined the club, Alvarez commented: “This is a very proud moment for me and my family. For a club like City to put their faith in me like this is amazing.”
The 23 year-old went on to iterate that he is capable of helping City achieve more than they’ve already achieved so far this season, as he added: “I have been really pleased with my first season here, but I have plenty more I can do.
“I know I can be better, and City offer me everything I need to fulfil my potential.”
Alvarez also acknowledged the support of everyone involved with City as he concluded: “I want to thank the manager, the coaches and everyone at City who works behind the scenes for everything they have done for me since I joined in the summer.
“I could not have asked for more. This is a club that looks after its players, and I have felt so supported throughout my time here.
“I am now focused on getting better and helping City win trophies.”
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, added that Alvarez has “impressed” through “his technical ability, dedication and attitude.”
Begiristain also iterated that Alvarez is a role model for young footballers across the world, as he said: “He is the ideal blueprint for a young footballer and an inspiration to anyone looking to make their way in the game.
“He has shown already here in England he has outstanding movement and natural goalscoring instincts.”
Begiristain concluded that Alvarez is “a special talent” after helping Argentina to the World Cup at just 23 year-old, yet warned that City “are now fully focused on developing his game even further and turning him into one of the best strikers in world football.”
