Orlando Pirates are believed to have made a decision regarding the future of their talismanic forward Thembinkosi Lorch, amid rumours.

Lorch has missed huge chunks of the past two seasons for Pirates, best has returned to prove his quality to the Ghosts on both occasions.

Lorch is undoubtedly a fan favourite for Pirates with the club faithful holding him dear to their hearts. That is due to the manner in which he plays his football, oozing confidence at every given opportunity he gets to don the fame black and white jersey. In the past, he has also supplied them with a great deal of memories, including the 2018\19 season where he won the Player of the Season award.

After that, however, his fortunes at Pirates have been rather up and down. After scoring a crucial winner against hosts Egypt in the AFCON 2019 last 16, Lorch became the subject of even more transfer interest from abroad. This included at the time, club owner Irvin Khoza reportedly refusing to grant ‘Nyoso’ as he is affectionately known as, a move to a club in the Belgium top flight.

It is believed that Lorch felt hard done by, with that and his form for Pirates began fluctuating. Two seasons ago, it was believed that the Bafana Bafana international was being hotly pursued by Mamelodi Sundowns, with their former coach Pitso Mosimane thought to be a big fan. He then further proved that as he name dropped him in an example of players he would have to seek permission for to sign as Al Ahly coach.

The links between Lorch and Mosimane didn’t go away, as when the former Bafana Bafana mentor made his move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, he was immediately linked with the skilful player. The player himself fuelled speculation by following the club on instagram. But since making his return from injury at Pirates, things are beginning to look a lot more rosy for the player.

So much so that, with one year left on his contract, Soccer-Laduma reports that contract extension talks have begun.
Lorch to stay at Pirates?
“As of now it’s not a done deal. It is still on the talking stage but it is a proposed three-year extension to his current contract which is ending on 30 June 2024. You know such talks take time and it also depends on what the club offers and what the player wants” the source told the publication.
