High Voter Turnout in Sokoto
Saturday’s supplementary election being conducted by INEC, recorded high voter turnout as election began early in the affected areas in Sokoto State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voters, especially women, came out in large numbers at the polling units while combined teams of security agencies enforced movement restrictions in Sokoto metropolis.
NAN reports that the supplementary elections are taking place in some polling units across the 23 local government areas for 10 National Assembly seats not concluded on Feb. 25.
At Magajin Gari B ward, Garkar Alkali Yahaya 003 polling unit, election had commenced as early as 8 a.m and voters formed queues in oderly manner with cooperation from the party agents.
The Presiding Officer, Mr Abdulbaqi Abubakar, told NAN that Biomodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) had been working smoothly and voters complied with instructions.
Abubakar said the four INEC ad hoc staff were present while political parties presented three agents each, adding that the security personnel attached to the polling unit had not showed up.
He said that accreditation was on going smoothly, BVAS is working well while accreditation and voting were in progress.
The situation is similar at Rumfar Kyahel polling unit 008, Kofar Atiku, ‘Yargoba and Kanwuri all in Sokoto North Local Government Area.
Some eligible voters, Aminu Rufa’i, Kabir Nasir and Maryam Bello, commended the process and expressed the hope of rounding off early, without experiencing what occured during the previous election. (NAN)

Oyo Supplementary Election Hitch-free, Says REC
Dr Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, says the supplementary election conducted in two Federal Constituencies in the state on Saturday was hitch-free.
Tella made this known while addressing newsmen after monitoring the exercise in the eight polling units spread across the two affected Federal Constituencies in Oluyole and Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Constituencies.
According to him, the supplementary election has been peaceful and free of any form of violence.
He said that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used in all the polling units worked perfectly well.
Tella commended the voters in the concerned polling units for coming out to exercise their franchise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voters in the affected polling units were seen on queues while INEC officials were attending to them for accreditation and voting.
The party agents of the two major contesting political parties- All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were present in all the polling units.
The presence of security personnel, namely Army, Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were noticed.
A cross section of the voters at the polling units commended the electoral body for the smooth conduct of the election.
Commenting, the PDP Vice-Chairman South-West, Taofeek Arapaja, lauded the efforts of INEC for the smooth conduct of the supplementary election.
Arapaja said reports received from all the polling units showed that the commission adequately prepared for the election with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) working perfectly well.
Also, Mr Israel Oguntobi, a Chieftain of APC, acknowledged the peaceful atmosphere that characterised conduct of the election in all the polling units where elections were held.
Oguntobi commended security agencies for ensuring adequate security at the polling units.
NAN also reports that the supplementary elections were held at two polling units in Oluyole Federal Constituency.
The polling units were: RA 02/U001, located inside Abbey Technical College, Akala Way, new Garage and
RA 07/U001 situated inside IDC
School, Olurinde area, both in Ibadan.
Election for the Ibadan North- East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency were held in six polling units namely: RA 07/U011 at
Aborisade Compound; RA 09/U 011 at Atipe Junction I and
and RA 09/U030, Queen of Apostle, Oluyoro III.
Others were RA 07/U001 at
C.A.C. Grammar School, Oniyere; RA 07/U018 at Government Secondary School, Orita Aperin and RA 12/U 032 located at Falana Mobil Station II area.(NAN)

Rivers Supplementary Election Peaceful amidst Low Voter Turnout
The Saturday’s supplementary National Assembly election in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers commenced smoothly and peacefully despite low turnout of voters.
The electoral officers arrived early with the materials at Rumuwoji Ward 12 Unit 6 Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, but up till noon, very few persons had cast their votes.
Some residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they would not participate in the election because the results of the Feb. 25 and March 18 elections did not reflect their votes.
Mr Godfrey Udom said that his vote would not make any difference from what the result was before the cancellation of the earlier one.
“As you can see people are not interested in this election because they came out in large numbers during the general election, but what they expected was not what they saw when the results were declared.
Also in Units 8, 9 and 10 not many voters did came out to cast their votes as INEC officials waited patiently for them.
Mrs Faith Araon, however, said she came out to cast her vote because she had hope and believe that Nigeria would be great with good governance if people voted and their votes counted.
Araon urged the electorate to have faith in Nigeria and contribute their quota to strength the country’s democracy.
NAN recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission suspended elections conducted for two National Assembly seats in Port Harcourt Local Government Area over irregularities.
The affected polls were those for the PHALGA 2 House of Representatives and the Rivers South East Senatorial District held on Feb, 25. (NAN)

Anambra Govt Worried About Level of Vote-buying in Supplementary Poll

Anambra State government has expressed worry about the high level of vote buying going on in the supplementary election for House of Representatives in Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
An official of the state government, Hon Ifeanyi Okeoma, who also works as the commissioner for works said the level of vote-buying was denying voters the opportunity of making their rightful choices in the election.
Speaking with journalists at Okpoko, Okeoma said: “We are worried. For us (APGA), people should be able to vote their choices, without looking at any inducement.
“We are hopeful that despite the high level of vote-buying, APGA will still win the election, because as you already know, Anambra is APGA land.”
Meanwhile, in polling areas monitored by our correspondent, the APGA candidate, Hon Arinze Awogu and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Chuchu Onyema, who is also an incumbent lawmaker, are said to be involved in vote-buying.
A source at Manus primary school polling unit in Okpoko said one vote costs as much as N10,000.
Though Okeoma insisted that his party, APGA, was not involved in vote buying, an agent of Labour Party, Mr Chinedu Eze, wondered why almost all members of the Anambra executive council were deployed to Ogbaru for the election.
“I have seen the commissioner of works here, I have seen Dr Alex Obiogbolu, who is the special adviser on politics, I have also seen commissioner for Local Government, community and chieftaincy affairs, Tony Nwabunwanne here. None of them is from Ogbaru. So, if they are not buying votes, what are they doing here when there is restriction of movement?” Eze asked.

INEC Declares Bomai winner of Yobe South Senate Seat
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday declared Sen. Ibrahim Bomai of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the senator-elect for Yobe South.
INEC Returning Officer, Dr Abatcha Melemi of the Federal University Gashua, made the declaration in Potiskum.
Melemi stated that Bomai scored 69,596 votes to defeat Mr Halilu Mazagane of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 68,885 votes.
He said that Yerima Adamu of ADC scored 652 votes, while Jauro Ishaku of LP scored 471 votes.
Melemi said that Isa Musa NNPP scored 3,277 votes while Maisambo Barde of YPP scored 448 votes.
“I, Abatcha Melemi, the returning officer for the 2023 Yobe South senatorial district election, held on April 15, declares;
“That Bomai Ibrahim Mohammed of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared as the winner and is returned elected,” he said.
Speaking shortly, Bomai thanked the Almighty Allah for the victory.
“We are overwhelmed and filled with joy for the resilience and tenacity shown by the multitude of our good people of Yobe South in giving me a second mandate.
“This victory has further emboldened and made me more resolute in my commitment at bringing more people’s oriented projects and programmes.
“As well as completing the ones we started in improving the lives of the common man in Yobe South,” he added.
INEC had declared the Feb 25 election inconclusive following the cancellation of the Polling Unit 003 results in Manawaci in Fika Local Government Area leading to Saturday’s rerun. (NAN)

High Voter Turnout in Zamfara
Massive turnout of voters heralded Saturday’s supplementary elections in Zamfara Central Senatorial District, and in Gusau/Tsafe and Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituencies.
The supplementary elections are taking palace in 90 polling units in 24 wards in six local government areas of Gusau, Tsafe, Maru, Bungudu, Gummi and Bukkuyum.
Voter accreditation began early as INEC officials reported promptly at the polling booths.
The early turnout by voters and by INEC officials were noticed in affected polling booths in Tsafe Local Government Area and in Gusau Local Government Area.
INEC declared elections in the areas inconclusive after it cancelled results obtained in the initial exercise on Feb. 25. (NAN)

Polling Booths Open Early in Imo Amidst Tension
Polling booths opened early on Saturday morning for the supplementary elections in Imo amid large turn out and tension.
The candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Akarachi Amadi; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Osmond Ukanacho and the Labour Party (LP), Mr Uche Ogbuagu, are the three major contenders for the Mbaitoli /Ikeduru Federal Constituency election.
The supplementary polls are also being conducted for three State Constituencies of Isu, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ideato South.
Materials left Mbaitoli Local Government Area to respective polling units with heavy presence of security personnel.
At Eke-Amaehi Polling Unit 021, Eziama, the Polling Unit of the candidate of the APC, Mr Akarachi Amadi, there was large turn out of voters.
The Presiding Officer of the polling unit, Mr Peter Anatu, said accreditation and voting started at the booth at 8:00 a.m.
Anatu said no challenge had been recorded with the use of BVAS at the polling unit which had 1,382 registered voters.
A voter and the President-General of Eziama Autonomous community, Mr Maxwell Ozurumba, commended the large turn out of voters.
“The process is calm. There were no gun shots or violence so far witnessed at the polling unit as reported in the social media,” he said.
At Amaike Mbieri, unit 010 at Amankuta community civic hall, about 75 persons had voted at the unit by 9:45 a.m. which had a total of 798 registered voters.
At Amaike Mbieri, unit 011 Amankuta community school with 565 registered voters, election materials arrived at about past 8:00 a.m., but voting was delayed until about past 9:00 a.m. because party agents insisted on confirming the authenticity of the result sheets and other sensitive materials.
The Labour Party candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Mr Uche Ogbuagu, denied the rumours that he had stepped down for the candidate of the APC, Akarachi Amadi.
Ogbuagu further dispelled the rumour that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
He also urged INEC to redeem its image, saying voters were already disenchanted with the Feb. 25 and March 18 general elections.
“I am not just concerned about winning but about the sanity of the process,” he added. (NAN)

Impressive Voter Turnout in Oji River
The turnout for state House of Assembly supplementary elections in Oji River local government area in Enugu state was impressive as voters came out in their numbers early for the exercise.
The supplementary Election was conducted in Oji River Central School One and Two.
It was observed that accreditation started as early as 8 in the morning while INEC officials were on hand to commence the voting process.

Voting Ongoing in Shagari LGA of Sokoto
Voting ongoing peacefully in some communities visited in Shagari local government area where the supplementary for the Sokoto South Senatorial District is ongoing.
Adequate security personnel were stationed in this particular polling units Basawa Tasha 011 of Kajiji ward of Shagari local government area.
No election for the Yabo/Shagari federal constituency as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC did not include it in the list of the federal constituencies elections to be conducted in Sokoto.
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP Umar Yusuf Yabo was earlier declared winner of the election during the collation for of the February 18th General Election, but in an earlier briefing by INEC a national Commissioner of the electoral body said election will be conducted for all the national assembly and Senatorial positions in Sokoto until the latest list that came out and exclude the Yabo/Shagari federal constituency.

Vote-buying, Thuggery in Anambra National Assembly Rerun

There is serious vote buying by leading political parties in the Ogbaru Federal Constituency supplementary election in Anambra State.
This is as three of the leading political parties in the election have also unleashed thugs in various parts of the local government, where the election is being conducted.
Many voting centres visited by our correspondent within the local government, witnessed huge influx of thugs, despite the massive deployment of security officials, including police, navy and army personnel.
At Manus primary school, Okpoko Ward 6, suspected thugs, said to be working for the PDP candidate in the election, swooped on journalists who were riding in a vehicle with government number plate, suspecting them to be agents of the ruling party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Also, at Okpoko Ward 3, polling unit 004 at St Luke’s Anglican Church, agents of the the PDP and APGA were seen in their camps, where they were making payments to voters who voted for their parties.
A journalist, Mr Sunny David was mistaken for a voter by canvassers of the PDP, and was put on the queue for payment, after he agreed to enquiries from the agents that he voted for their party.
The leading candidates in the election and their political parties are: Hon Afam Ogene of LP, Chuchu Onyema of PDP and Hon Arinze Awogu of APGA.

Voter Apathy in Parts of Port Harcourt
Saturday’s House of Representatives supplementary election in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency in Rivers has been characterised by low turnout of voters, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
In Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Ward 5, Port Harcourt Township, election commenced at 8:30 a.m. but as at 11:26 a.m. only few voters had come out to cast their votes.
Polling Units 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 and 88 of the same ward also experienced a similar situation as voters came out in trickles to vote.
However, the election environment was peaceful and orderly with the presence of the Police and personnel of the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the polling stations.
In Unit 44 Ward 5 opposite the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) office complex, the Presiding Officer, James Ar-Ibibbia, said that no person had voted in the unit as at 10:40 a.m.
The Presiding Officer of Unit 1, Jesse Kio, said voting commenced in the unit by 8:30 a.m. but only few persons had voted.
Some of the voters, who spoke with NAN attributed the voter apathy to doubts over the transparent conduct of the elections.
The PDP agent in Unit 3 Ward 5, Micha Kalio, blamed the low turnout on partly the outcome of the February 25 and March 18 elections.
“Most people in the state are not even aware that the election is being held today,” he added.
NAN reports that some opposition parties in the state, including the All Progressives Party (APC) boycotted the supplementary elections over alleged lack of transparency by INEC at the gubernatorial elections.
Past elections in Rivers were marred by electoral violence, including snatching of ballot boxes. (NAN)

Voters’ Apathy Mars Ebonyi Supplementary Election
Voter apathy trailed Saturday’s supplementary election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was low turnout of voters in some of the polling units visited in Ikwo Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The supplementary elections are taking palace in some constituencies in the seven affected LGAs in Ebonyi, including Abakaliki, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo and Ivo.
The election is being conducted in Ikwo to elect the representative for Ikwo North constituency in Ebonyi House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the elections inconclusive in the areas due to violence and irregularities.
In Ndiogadoshi playground, polling unit 017 ward 02 in Ikwo Local Government Area, NAN reports that INEC officials arrived with materials at 9:25 a.m.
In Ugbodo village hall and Olua playground, INEC Officials were present but voter turnout was low.
An INEC official, who spoke in anonymity, told NAN that accreditation was on going smoothly but worried by the apathy among voters.
“The BVAS is working well and accreditation is ongoing,” the official added.
Some eligible voters, who spoke to NAN , cited indifference among other things, as reason for their lack of interest in the process.
Mrs Joy Nwanchor, a trader, said she could not have interest any more after the general elections.

Anger Trails National Assembly Supplementary Election in Sokoto over Late Arrival of Materials

There was anger and fury amongst voters in Sokoto as late arrival of electoral materials characterised the supplementary national assembly elections in the state.
Speaking to newsmen at 017 polling unit in Shuni the member representing Dange/Shuni , Tureta , Bodinga federal constituency Dr Balarabe Kakale said he was disappointed at the action of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Kakale noted that upon the assurance the electoral body gave them , the umpire had not shown commitment to conduct free, fair and credible rerun .
He said the election that should have commenced by 8:am, electoral materials are yet to arrive at polling units at 10am.
He alleged that the action was a ploy by INEC to rig the election, saying even when they came late most of the BVAS machines were not functioning and the adhoc staff on ground to operate the machines were inexperienced.
“You know billions of naira were voted for INEC for this election but look at what is happening, even their adhoc staff were not properly trained”, he stated.
He said they had registered their protest to INEC, saying the trend is discouraging.
He implored INEC to allow the will and wishes of the electorate prevail.
“Virtually every where the story are the same, in Amana, Dange, Shuni same story,” he said.

Voting Yet to Commence in Some Polling Units in Anambra

Voting is yet to commence in some polling units in parts of Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, for the House of Representatives supplementary election for Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
Ogbaru is the only constituency, of the 11 in Anambra, where election was inconclusive, during the February 25 election.
At about 11 am in Okpoko Ward 14, polling unit 052, voters were seen sitting forlornly, as they waited for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to arrive with materials.
Mrs Cordelia Enwerem, a voter in the area complained about the non arrival of materials, saying there is no threat, yet INEC failed to deploy officials.
In other areas within Okpoko, INEC officials were said to have arrived without result sheets and were chased away by voters.

Travellers Stranded in Sokoto, as Police Enforce Restriction of Movement
More travellers are stranded in Bodinga town, headquarters of Bodinga local government of Sokoto South Senatorial District, where supplementary election for the Senatorial and federal house of representatives is ongoing .
This is as a result of the implementation of the no movement order of the state police Command for the National Assembly supplementary election.
Security personnel are clearing only those on election duty especially media personnel and observers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will today hold supplementary elections in a number of polling units in 24 states across Nigeria to conclude all outstanding governorship, national and state assembly polls.
In earlier elections held on February 25 and March 18, INEC declared winners for the Presidency, 26 governorship, 104 senatorial, 329 House of Reps membership and 935 state assembly seats.
However, the election umpire declared several polls inconclusive, while it cancelled others due to irregularities and violence in the affected states.
At the top of the supplementary polls today will be the governorship elections in Adamawa and Kebbi states. There will also be supplementary polls in five senatorial districts, 31 federal and 58 state assembly constituencies.
In the Adamawa State governorship election result declared on March 11, incumbent governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 421,524 votes, while his main rival, Aishatu ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 390,275.
Fintiri defeated Binani with a margin of over 30,000 votes. The governor also won the election in 13 of Adamawa’s 21 local government areas while Binani won in the remaining eight.
But the state’s Collation Officer, Prof. Mohammed Mele announced the cancellation of elections in 69 polling units in Fufore Local Government Area, which affected no fewer than 37,016 potential voters with PVCs in those units.
Although final results showed that Fintiri scored the highest votes, INEC said the cancelled votes were more than the margin of victory between him and the runner-up, Binani.
It, therefore, declared the governorship election in Adamawa State inconclusive.
Today, the 37,016 potential voters in Fufore will determine the fate of Fintiri and Binani as they renew their rivalry.
Idris Vs Bande in Kebbi
The Kebbi State Governorship election results announced after the March 11 polls showed that the candidate of the ruling APC, Dr. Nasir Idris scored 388,358, while Mohammed Bande of the PDP scored 342,980.
There was cancellation of results in a number of local government areas of Kebbi State, cutting across a number of Registration Areas in different polling units.
The cancelled votes were more than the margin of victory between Idris and Bande.
As a result, the Collation and Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, declared the Kebbi governorship election inconclusive.
Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu said: “We aggregated the total number of collected PVCs in polling units where elections were cancelled and it came to a total of 91,829.
“And when we checked the results, the two leading political parties in this contest, APC and PDP polled 388,258 and 342,980 votes respectively. When we look at the difference, it stands at 45,278.
“By virtue of electoral provisions and the powers vested in me as the collation and returning officer of 2023 gubernatorial election in Kebbi State, I, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, hereby declare the governorship election in Kebbi State inconclusive.”
Senatorial Elections
There will be supplementary senatorial elections in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
In Sokoto, elections will be conducted in Sokoto-North, Sokoto-East and Sokoto-South senatorial districts.
In Sokoto-South, elections will hold in 133 polling units where a total number of 73,471 PVCs were collected.
In Sokoto-North, elections will take place in 166 polling units with a total of 106,207 PVCs.
In Sokoto-East, elections will be held in 90 polling units with a total of 48,075 PVCs.
In Kebbi and Zamfara states, the election will be conducted in one senatorial district each – Kebbi-North and Zamfara-Central.
While the election will be held in 23 polling units in the Kebbi-North, electorates in 83 polling units will be voting in the Zamfara-Central senatorial election. They have 13,243 and 47,277 eligible voters, respectively.
House of Representatives
Supplementary elections for House of Representatives will be held in 31 constituencies in 15 states.
They are Akwa Ibom (2), Anambra (1), Bayelsa (1), Edo (1), Imo (1), Kano (2), Kebbi (2), Kogi (1), Oyo (2), Rivers (2), Sokoto (11), Taraba (1), Zamfara (2), Jigawa (1) and Ebonyi State (1).
Sokoto State
There will be House of Representatives supplementary elections in Rabah/Wurno, Yabo/Shiyari, Sokoto-North, Sokoto-South, Kware/Wamakko, Kebbe/Tambuwal, Isa/Sabon Birni, Gwadabawa/Illela, Gudu/Tangaza, Gada-Goronyo, Bodinga-Dange Shuni Tureta and Binji-Silame.
Zamfara State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will hold in Gusau/Tsafe, Gummi/Bukkuyum
Taraba State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will be held in Takum/Ussa/Donga.
Oyo State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will take place in two units in Oluyole and Ibadan North-east/Ibadan South-east.
Kogi State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will hold in 44 units of Dekinna/Bassa.
Kebbi State
In Kebbi State, elections will hold in seven units of Arewa/Dandi federal Constituency while in Koko Bese/MayanmaMayanma federal Constituency, elections will be held in six units.
Kano State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will take place in 13 units of Tundun Wada and in Fagge.
Jigawa State
There will be supplementary elections in six units of Gumel Federal Constituency.
Imo State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will take place in 58 units in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru.
Edo State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will be held in 48 units of Orhionmwon Uhunmode.
Ebonyi State
There will be supplementary elections in 35 units in Ezza-North Federal Constituency.
Bayelsa State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will hold in 32 units in Southern Ijaw.
Anambra State
There will be supplementary elections in 45 units of Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
Akwa Ibom State
House of Representatives supplementary elections will take place in 17 units of Ikono/Ini and in 25 units in Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika.
Rivers State
There will be supplementary elections in Port Harcourt II and Khana/Gokana federal constituencies.
In Port Port Harcourt II, the election will be held in 377 polling units within Wards 05, 10 and 28, respectively.
In Khana/Gokana, the election will be held in Khana Wards 04 and 07, across 42 polling units.
Houses of Assembly
For the state Houses of Assembly, elections will be held in 58 constituencies across 17 states.
Tinubu Sues for Peace
President-elect Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians in the areas slated for supplementary elections to conduct themselves peacefully and eschew violence and any act prejudicial to orderly electoral processes.
Tinubu in a statement he personally signed said as the last leg of the 2023 general election, everyone must ensure that the electoral processes are brought to a final, peaceful conclusion.
He noted that it was only when there is a country that aspirants to political offices could have seats to contest for and the electorate have people seeking their votes.
The president -elect stressed that like the INEC officers, the candidates and the electorate, therefore, have a solemn responsibility in this election, adding that they must ensure that the additional polls are conducted not only freely and fairly, but also devoid of tension, acrimony and violence that will threaten the very fabric that holds the country together.
