Ten mourners have died as several others sustain serious injuries on Saturday night.
This was after the bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita-Taveta County.
Police say the mourners were going back to Mombasa from a burial ceremony at Mghambonyi in Taita Hills at the time of the accident.
The accident happened at Josa Hill, an area regarded as a major black spot in the county.
Mwatate Sub County Police Commander Morris Okul confirmed that ten people died, while several others were seriously injured.
Okul says nine passengers died on the spot and another succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi town.
The 12 passengers, among them five children and the driver, are recuperating with deep injuries at the said hospital.
