Former Pirates star drops retirement, moves abroad

Orlando Pirates’ former winger Sameehg Doutie shocked us all by retiring at 32 last year. The Bo-Kaap-born star had no idea what was coming this year.

Football is dramatic. The 33-year-old Doutie has gone from a hopelessly clubless spell in Cape Town to make a sudden move to New Zealand.

The news was reported by New Zealand’s Friends of Football website.

“A winger who played top-level club football in South Africa and India has come out of retirement to help struggling Manukau United,” the outlet reported.

“Sameehg Doutie (33) has arrived in New Zealand after a 12-year professional career playing in the top division of South African football, the India Super League and the top tier of the Swedish pyramid.

“The former South African U-20 and U-23 international made his debut for Manukau United against Manurewa on May 13, playing a full 90 minutes in his new club’s 3-0 loss,” the report added.

MONNAPULE SALENG GETS NOMINATED

Staying with Pirates, the club’s inspirational central defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has given big kudos to Saleng.

After an exceptional 14 goals and five assists in 27 games as a winger, Sibisi believes his teammate Saleng has been the best in Mzansi.

“I would give it to Monnapule Saleng,” Sibisi said, quoted by FARPost’s Tokelo Mokhesi.

“I think he has been brilliant for us. He has been scoring goals.

“He’s been assisting, working hard, and I personally think he deserves it, so that’s my honest opinion,” the player known as “Bhodlela” concluded.
