Potsdam (dpa) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has met with French President Emmanuel Macron for dinner in a friendly atmosphere in Potsdam, where he currently resides. It was the first time during his time in office that he has received a head of state or government in the Brandenburg capital. Scholz wrote on Twitter: “Our countries are linked by an inseparable friendship. Together we are tackling the challenges of these days and of our time.”
From 2 to 4 July, French President Macron will be coming to Germany on a state visit, at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Besides Berlin, visits to Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart and to Dresden are also scheduled. This will be the first state visit of a French president to Germany in 23 years. “This special event marks the beginning of a new chapter in the decades of friendship between the two countries,” read a statement from the Office of the Federal President and the Élysée Palace at the beginning of May.
