A man who police say is known to be violent and to carry various weapons is sought after an axe attack in Richmond Hill.

In a news release issued Wednesday, York Regional Police said on Dec. 13 at about 7 p.m., a man was at a residence on Highland Park Blvd. when he “had an altercation with another man and assaulted him with an axe,” York Regional Police Const. Lisa Moskaluk alleged in a news release.

Police said the alleged victim was able to fight off the attack and contact authorities.
Alexander Gordon Dykes, 59, of no fixed address, is wanted for assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and two counts of failure to comply with probation.

He was last seen on Dec. 13 in the Highland Park Blvd.-Yonge St. area.
Police said the man is known to carry various weapons, such as a hammer or axe.
“Due to his unpredictable and potentially violent nature, we urge the public to use caution if they come into contact with him,” Moskaluk said.
The accused man is described as a white, 5-foot-11 and 181 pounds.
