B.C. lottery players cashed in on $859 million in total prizes in 2023, more than half of which went to players who bought tickets in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC) said 101 million winning tickets were bought at retail locations and online at PlayNow.com, the only legal gambling website in the province and one where profits go back into the community.
“Surprise, delight, awe, joy, excitement — these are all words that our lottery winners have used to describe how they felt winning,” said BCLC president and CEO Pat Davis in a news release.

“So as 2023 comes to a close, we’re excited to look back and celebrate all of the life-changing dreams that became realties for our lottery winners. Thanks to our players, BCLC is proud to generate revenue for provincial services and initiatives that we all rely on like health care, education and community programs.”
Of the winnings, 45.5 million winning tickets totalling $459.9 million went to players in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, including 34 grand prizes valued at $500,000 or more.
One Daily Grand jackpot of $7 million was won by Juliana Petrovici and 23 of her colleagues in Burnaby. You’re already trying to do the math, so we’ll save you the trouble: It’s a tidy payout of $291,666.66 each.
Five Lotto 6/49 jackpots were won, including $5-million “classic” jackpots for Geraldine Ettinger of White Rock, Simon Pleau of North Vancouver and Yvonne Sinclair of Richmond.
A richmond resident won $2.5 million on a classic jackpot, while Shannon and Karsten Von Richter of Port Moody purchased the same numbers twice and won $3.3 million on another classic jackpot.
