Ramallah (d.de) – During a visit to Israel and the West Bank, Germany’s Development Minister Svenja Schulze held talks on how German development policy can contribute to stabilising the situation and help find a long-term solution to the conflict. “The task in terms of development policy is to maintain and create the foundations in Palestinian society on which we can build a peaceful solution,” explained Schulze. The Federal Government’s position is clear, said Schulze: “There is no reasonable alternative to the two-state solution when it comes to offering a perspective for peace. Israelis and Palestinians can only live in peace if the other side does the same.”
The Minister emphasised that Germany remains committed to the region in terms of its development policy, even in these difficult times. “We see our commitment to stability and future prospects in the Palestinian territories as reflecting our particular historical responsibility for Israel’s security and as a contribution to a peaceful solution in the Middle East,” explained Schulze.
