Will this forgotten Orlando Pirates star benefit from Lorch departure?

Sources inside Orlando Pirates suggest that Lesedi Kapinga is ready to step up after the departure of Thembinkosi Lorch for Mamelodi Sundowns.

This season, Kapinga has only appeared in one league game for the Sea Robbers; the other two appearances he has made domestically were in the MTN8, where the club won the championship. His only other appearance was in the CAF Champions League, where the team lost in the preliminary round much to the disappointment of their fans.

After an injury also hindered his development, Kapinga has now recovered and is reportedly working hard in training to please coach Jose Riveiro so that he may include him in the starting lineups when the season restarts in February.

“The boy (Kapinga) is motivated to do well. He is working hard in training, and he is confident of making it at Pirates,” a source told SNL24.

“With Lorch having left the club, there is a chance for Lesedi to get more game time. Lorch’s departure will open space for some of the guys who didn’t play much in the first round of the season and Lesedi is one of those players.”

Lorch move leaves a bad taste in the mouth

Lorch, who has spent the previous nine years of his career with the Soweto giants, sent a farewell message on social media.

“It is with a mix of emotions that I announce my departure from Orlando Pirates FC. My time has been filled with unforgettable memories, personal growth, and the chance to play alongside very talented football players,” Lorch posted on Instagram.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, for providing me with the opportunity to play for a club that has so much history and for all your support during the difficult times in my life. Thank you to Coach José Riveiro for his belief in me, the former and current coaches and the staff, the entire management team and my teammates for all the memories we have built together.
