Konami surprises fans with a new game titled Silent Hill: The Short Message available for all PlayStation 5 users to play today for free.
According to PlayStation’s recent blog post, Konami made the game free to encourage new players to try out the Silent Hill franchise. This removes any financial barrier for PS5 users.
“We’re releasing the whole game for free, so if you’ve never played a Silent Hill game before, we hope you’ll take this chance to get a taste of what Silent Hill is all about.”
Motoi Okamoto, producer of the game
It’s important to note that Konami has never talked about The Short Message, making this a pleasant surprise for everyone. Overall, the game hasn’t received any promotion except for leaks fans found back in 2022.
Audiences can view one of these leaks below:

Back then, many thought it would be a short yet memorable horror experience similar to P.T.
What is the Short Message?
The new Silent Hill game sets players to play as Anita, who tries to jump off a building at the start of the trailer. She eventually explores “The Villa” in modern-day Germany to find it. As for what it is, that is up for the players to find out. All we know is that a character named Maya says that Anita can not escape The Villa without finding it.
According to Okamoto, Silent Hill: The Short Message aims to address contemporary problems the current generation faces today.
The company observed the youth’s online reality and came up with a creative way to put that into the psychological horror genre.

This was shown in the trailer with the quick yet distinct images of cyberbullying and how it can mentally affect adolescents.
However, Konami didn’t stop their surprise there. After The Short Message’s trailer, they released a combat trailer for Silent Hill 2, a game that was first revealed back in 2022.
Unfortunately, they still haven’t dropped a release date but assured everyone that it is currently “in development.”
