We lost count of the innocent Palestinians lives lost in Rafah. Justice is definitely not being served, and all we can do is unfortunately sit and watch, share, and hope to act as a voice for them. But it’s not only on social media users to advocate for Palestine, it’s more on renowned public figures and celebrities with big platforms and huge social media following to show the atrocities and the truth about what has been happening on the ground for the past 8 months.
Celebrities like Ariana Grande, Jenna Ortega, Nicola Coughlan, and Dua Lipa have taken to their platforms to call and urge for a ceasefire and to shift focus on the lives lost in Rafah. Rapper, Macklemore has dedicated his art to spreading the message through his music to focus on the genocide, and singer SZA has paraded the Palestinian flag in her concert and screamed ‘Free Palestine’.
Ariana Grande fundraised for the Palestinian Children’s Relief on her platform, collecting more than 20,000 dollars in less than an hour. This shows the kind of impact celebrities can make when using their platforms for a rightful cause. Even sharing a simple post drives many to the right side of history.
On that note, there was a hashtag with the name #SwiftiesForPalestine going around on X/Twitter urging Taylor Swift to ‘Speak Now’, a play on words on her album ‘Speak Now’, and use her platform and her voice to shed light on the current genocide.
Many Swifties were spotted at her concert waving the Palestinian flag and holding up banners with the words ‘Swifties for Palestine’, while others have written an open letter to the pop star asking her to use her voice and make a statement.
We believe a global icon and pop star like Taylor Swift should use her platform to bring more attention to the dire situation in Rafah. If Ariana’s post has impacted many, imagine Taylor’s. One post and one share will definitely create a huge impact that will change many perspectives.
