LeBron James is one of us, which could be good and bad. A Twitter user posted a video of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar viewing an illegal stream website called Stream East. In the said video, an unidentified associate of James opened the site on a laptop to watch Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals while the four-time MVP leaned and took a peak.
James focused on the AAU game more than the laptop, but that’s not the point. The fact that the NBA’s most recognizable superstar agreed that someone in his entourage watches an illegal streaming website should raise eyebrows.
However, many fans lament that the video puts StreamEast into the limelight. That could get the site taken down, which is apparently not something that they want.
Nevertheless, it will take a minor miracle to shut these sites down. Many operate in other countries, and tracking them would be impossible. However, authorities may crack down on the users and punish them with fines and possible imprisonment. But even that doesn’t happen very often.
Raised eyebrows or not, this scenario is consistent with James’ personality. The four-time NBA MVP proudly admits his frugal ways, such as not paying for Pandora or Spotify and not turning on data roaming. That makes him relatable to fans more than other superstars, but watching that illegal stream will definitely earn him a private meeting with Adam Silver.
After all, the guy is already a billionaire with a net worth close to $1.2 billion. That includes career earnings approaching $500 million! Besides, he could simply ask Silver and the NBA for a free League Pass account and he’d probably get it.
