When a movie becomes a hit, the audience as well as filmmakers get excited about a sequel or even multiple parts of this movie production. While some follow-ups capture the same success as the original, others fall short and flop. Here are four international movies that did not need a sequel.
Avatar 2
The 13-year gap between the first movie in 2009 and its sequel in 2022 definitely built up a lot of excitement. While it wasn’t exactly a flop, it certainly didn’t meet the high expectations that had formed over the years. This raises the question: did they really need a sequel, or should they have just left it at the original’s success?
Cars 2
Another example of a sequel that missed the mark is Cars 2. The first Cars movie was a beloved part of many childhoods, but it’s obvious how the second part didn’t leave the same impact. It’s rare to find anyone who remembers an iconic line or details from Cars 2, which only reinforces the idea that sticking with the success of the first movie might have been a better choice.
Joker 2
This one seems to have unanimous feedback on how disappointing it turned out. The issue wasn’t with just the acting but also with how the storyline shifted away from the core of the Joker legacy. This change explains why so many people didn’t click with it.
Toy Story 4
Throughout the four parts of Toy Story, you can easily recognize how this series got into a decline upon the release of every new part. No doubt, this one is among the most iconic movies for both young and adults. However, stopping maybe after the second part would have been sufficient.
