Future Energy Asia 2022 & Future Mobility Asia 2022 successfully converged more than 13,500 participants in the energy and clean mobility sectors to drive a transformative motion in Southeast Asia
Future Energy Asia (FEA) and Future Mobility Asia (FMA) 2022, the only integrated event in Southeast Asia dedicated to modernising and driving ASEAN’s energy transition and clean mobility missions, successfully took place from 20th to 22nd July 2022, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC).
Spanning across over 15,000 square metres, the exhibition and summit hosted more than 150 international exhibitors across the energy and mobility industries and 250 leading speakers. The summit connected over 13,500 participants for networking and deal-making opportunities, of which 30% of the participants were international and regional attendees.
Organised under the patronage of H.E. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, and managed by the world’s largest organiser of energy exhibitions and conferences, dmg events, FEA and FMA 2022 presented a joint opening ceremony on 20th July, graced by the Honorable Premrutai Vinaiphat, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy Thailand who delivered the Ministerial Keynote Address on “Thailand towards Net Zero: Clean Energy & Mobility for Green, Low-Carbon Growth”.
Thailand In the Driving Seat of Southeast Asia’s Energy Transition and Clean Mobility Missions “On behalf of the Ministry of Energy Thailand, I am pleased to share our appreciation and support for Future Energy Asia 2022 and Future Mobility Asia 2022. It is apparent that we are now facing many challenges with the enormous shifts underway in the energy sector raised by the energy transition coupled with the pandemic and current global energy crisis. This event comes at a crucial time to provide a comprehensive decarbonization and transformation summit in the region,” said Mrs Premrutai Vinaiphat, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy Thailand. “Thailand is moving forward in the same direction to achieve a low carbon economy with strong efforts and intensive policy and measures. Moreover, while we actively move toward a global production base of EV, several supportive measures and incentives have been introduced. This integrated event is a timely opportunity where leading companies and professionals converge to transform challenges into opportunities, further showcasing the energy and clean mobility transition in Asia.”
Subsequent keynotes included “Fast-tracking Thailand’s Energy Transition – The Role of Gas, Renewables and Thailand’s EV Ambitions” by Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT, and “Sustainable E&P for Energy Security and Diversifications into New Energy Investment Opportunities and Technologies” by Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, Chief Executive Officer of PTTEP.
“In 2021, Thailand imported about 5.9 million tons of LNG and is expected to reach 8 million tons this year. The nation is surrounded by countries in demand, namely China, Japan, India and other Southeast Asia countries. These countries accounted for 70% of the current energy volume. While the increasing demand is foreseeable, PTT had set our energy portfolio to 9 million tons by 2030. On a side note, in response to Thailand’s 30/30 policy goals, PTT had expanded our businesses on EV, batteries and infrastructure. We have formed strategy collaboration and partnerships with companies to promote EV adoption and further drive Thailand toward a low carbon society in the future,” said Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon. “I would like to communicate our utmost appreciation to the representatives of this event for your valuable contribution. Along with the government initiatives, I believe that we can shape the future energy landscape, improve the energy system performance and foster an effective energy transition for all.”

Co-hosted with PTT, Future Energy Asia Exhibition and Summit 2022 presents 130 energy sector global speakers shaping energy transition – the most influential, impactful line up since its inception in 2018. Keynote speakers include President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT, Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon; PTTEP Chief Executive Officer Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul; PETRONAS President and Group CEO Datuk Tengku Taufik; Cheniere Energy’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Anatol Feygin; and International Renewable Energy Agency’s Director General Mr. Francesco La Camera.
FEA 2022 featured specialised themes focusing on hydrogen, gas & LNG, carbon capture, and renewables. PTT and PTTEP showcased the next generation decarbonisation, robotics, AI and mobility technologies at the Technology Showcase. Country spotlight sessions on Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and countries with active market activities were presented. Other event highlights include the announcement of the Thailand Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Development Consortium, comprising multiple industries, government, and academic institutions. The Consortium aims to create advancements of CCUS technology, from research to real world utilisation in the industrial sectors.
Event highlights from FMA
The inaugural Future Mobility Asia Exhibition and Summit 2022 places ASEAN in the centre stage of global clean mobility dialogue and thought leadership. With the mission to advance ASEAN’s mobility towards an electric, autonomous, connected future, Future Mobility Asia features 80 global speakers including H.E. Arifin Tasrif, Minister for Energy & Mineral Resources of Republic of Indonesia; Dr. Twarath Sutabutr, Chief of Inspector General, Ministry of Energy Thailand; Mr. Isao Sekiguchi, Regional Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Nissan ASEAN; Mr. Rick Sturgeon, Senior Director – Transportation & Mobility, Dassault Systèmes; Mr. Mrugank Inamdar, Managing Director, Middle East and Asia (Ex-China), Hyzon Motors; and Mr. Chanin Khaochan, Deputy Secretary General, Thailand Board of Investment.
More than 85 international brands with robust participation from Singapore, India, Malaysia, China and many others participated in FMA 2022. Innovative products ranging from e-tuk tuk, autonomous shuttles, electric two-wheelers, to flying taxis were showcased. Locally, Thailand Ministry of Energy, Thailand Board of Investment, state-owned companies, Chulalongkorn University, and Smart Mobility Research Center (Smart MOBI) featured government initiatives and investment plans, EV production plans and commercial EV charging projects in the Thailand Clean Mobility Showcase. In addition, international and regional entrepreneurs in the clean mobility eco-system demonstrated the latest innovations and addressed the evolution within the automotive and energy industries at the Innovation Showcase. Test drive sessions were held at the Electric Vehicles Demonstration Zone, allowing visitors to experience the next generation of transportation including three-wheeler vehicles and cars at the exhibition.
At the summit, two cross-border Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between Singapore and Thailand companies, dedicated to strengthening the support for clean mobility developments and deployments. SWAT Mobility has signed a MOU with Thai Post Distribution to conduct a joint study on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in the management of route planning and optimising load utilisations of postal vehicles to increase productivity and cost efficiency. Another MOU was signed between Banpu NEXT, Cherdchai and Durapower to set up a joint venture company in Thailand to manufacture battery systems, in support of smart mobility in Thailand.
