The excitement and anticipation for the arrival of Estevao Willian at Chelsea continues ahead of his move being made official in the summer of 2025. It will soon be here now.
Until then though, the Brazilian international is still playing out his games in Brazil, and at the weekend he faced up against a familiar Chelsea cult hero, Thiago Silva.
Estevao was on the losing side, going down 1-0 to Silva’s Fluminense. But he did manage to catch a conversation with the former Blues fan favourite after the game.
“Thiago Silva just told me after our game that Chelsea is top and they’re waiting for me with open arms,” Estevao revealed in an interview with ESPN Brasil this week.
Who knows, one day soon Silva could well be coaching Estevao at Chelsea in some capacity, because he wants to return to the club as a coach when he retires and completes his badges.
Estevao is the next biggest thing out of Brazil, and he is already winning awards.
This season, he has just won the Best Young Player and Best Attacker of the 2024 Brasileirão with Palmeiras!
That is just incredible for the 17-year-old who already also has 4 senior international caps with Brazil to his name.
In the interview also, he reveals that he ideally wants to play in the 10 position, and would love to wear the number 41.
“I don’t have a preference, but I really like 41. If they have 41, it will be cool too,” he continued.
“I’ve always been a number ten and I went to the wing to have one-on-ones. Of course I respect Abel’s (Ferreira) decision, I know that I’ve enjoyed being on the wing more, but who knows, in the future I’ll play where I feel more comfortable, which is inside.”
It will be interesting to see where he fits in to this Chelsea side in the summer and what position he plays. The plan is he will join the first team squad straight away. We are pretty packed in those attacking areas at the moment. We shall see how that all unfolds in another great ‘problem’ for Enzo Maresca to have.
Estevao speaks to Reece James and Cole Palmer already, which is really nice to hear.
“Cole Palmer talks to me on Instagram and also Reece James said if I need anything let him know.”
I like to hear that from James. He’s a very quiet soul, but I like to know that he is doing his captain duties by reaching out to new signings like this. That’s great.
There is no doubt that Estevao is going to be a future star, I think every single person within the industry fully believes that. Bayern Munich tried to hijack the signing late on but he stuck with his Chelsea plan. And we are hugely lucky to be welcoming him to the club in the summer.
